The team selected by the Golfing Union of Ireland to compete in the Home Internationals at Co. Sligo Golf Club from 10th – 12th August is:
    Eoin Arthurs (Forrest Little)
    Paul Cutler (Portstewart)
    Alan Dunbar (Rathmore)
    Paul Dunne (Greystones)
    Niall Gorey (Muskerry)
    Aaron Kearney (Castlerock)
    Eddie McCormack (Galway)
    Gary McDermott (Co. Sligo)
    Dermot McElroy (Ballymena)
    Richard O'Donovan (Lucan)
    Kevin Phelan (Waterford Castle)

The Team Captain is Dr. Kevin Flanagan (Co. Sligo)

Ireland have a fairly strong team for this... Should be very good many heading to watch the golf?

He seems to be struggling with his game a bit of late, think he lost all his matches in Portugal last month and then going out in the first round of matchplay at the South of Ireland didn't help.

Well murrays form was poor in europeans and has never performed in sligo, losing 3 singles in interpros 7/6 5/4 3/2 was the end for him! Looks like we have a really strong team and given how familiar we are with the course should be in with a shout!

    What cuts did they miss????

Mcdermott 6th in irish close, 1/4 final in north, semi in west, and in case u havnt noticed the homes are in sligo so would you not think its a good idea to select a guy thats performed well there?

Best of luck lads, especially to Eoin Arthurs who is a member at my club. RTE should have highlights of this on the telly or maybe even TG4, local sport just doesn't seem to get a look in.

Looks like a really tight match with England in progress. Alan Dunbar is after getting a big beating there.

Not surprising as he was playing Andrew Sullivan who should be on the Walker Cup team with no problem this year

Kevin played really well today again and doing himself no harm whatsoever. I would have said he had an outside chance but his playing the last few weeks in Sweden and Sligo will have helped.

fairly convincing win for Ireland today. In pole position now to win but i'm sure the Scots would love to spoil the party.

just checked his WAGR its 433, not sure they would pick someone ranked that low, but if they're thinking of him partnering paul.......that might work!

not the greatest of starts today. not up in any of the matches so far. weather is horrible though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

disaster of a morning foursomes for the Irish. lost first four matches and only got a half in last one.

need a monumental effort in the singles now. think they will need to win at least 7 of them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

Curtains for Ireland now in trying to win the Home Internationals. They have lost the 1st 3 single matches all 2/1 so for Ireland to win they need to win the remaining 7 matches.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

England have won the Home internationals. The Irish have just come up short but today's morning foursomes was the reason we havent won.

Shame, there was some really good golf played. I had a feeling the Scots might ruin the party!

Sincere thanks to all the pm's from last week and posts here, it was a great week but very tough to take the result, the standard is frightening, an example being the Irish team were 46under par in the singles against Wales, a good experience all the same!
    Many thanks again.... NG
