Well guys its just around the corner now and Im always wondering about what type of clothing to wear during the first month of the deer season as its usually warm and the deerhunter jacket weighs a ton never mind the sweat Ill expire dragging back a beast!! What does everyone wear as in pants, jacket, jumper or fleece, wellys or boots. Go light or dress to suit? Perhaps a few pics of light summer type wear clothing would be great!!

Thinking the same myself, the big jacket is too warm in sept/oct,looking for a light breathable semi waterproof, silent jacket for early in the season, not in camo, greenish or brown in color.
    Any suggestions ?

During sept/oct i wear a baselayer from swazi or helly hansen with my swazi thar anaorak or swazi severn windproof fleece.

Its brilliant gear for hill stalking, its very breathable yet keeps you warm during the colder winter months. What i found is that after dargging your animal the baselayer is not ringing wet like with cotton.

I wear harkila pro hunter trousers, again very good gear, waterproof aswell.

Id highly recomend the huntech gaiters, by far the best pair of gaiters i have come across, 100% waterproof, very hard wearing and the material they are made from is completely silent, i have three pairs of them, one of which is approx 8 years old and still wear them stalking.

I use the gaiters with meindl boots and sealskinz waterproof socks, which allow you to cross streams and crawl through slobber and your feet are still bone dry.

Its worth spending the extra few quid on good gear that will last especially if your stalking quite a bit.

that looks like a nice bit of gear let us know how it goes.

i like what it says about. "With warmer winters and wetter summers, Seeland have developed this ultra-lightweight jacket designed for carrying, or wearing on milder days with a risk of heavy rain or showers."

i have something similar to this for the jacket http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MOSSY-OAK-FISHING-JACKET-HOOD-SIZE-X-X-X-LARGE-/250861559534?pt=UK_Sporting_Goods_Sports_Clothing_LE&hash=item3a68839eee
and a pair of 20 years old army trousers (still fit in them ) that are confortable and very strong. Cheap set that does the job for me.

The jacket is not worth a bollox in heavy rain, i have it and when im caught in a down pour im ringing, i only use it on crisp frosty mornings.

+1 on that, showerproof only. Also the stiching failed in the backside of the trousers on mine

Think of the all the midges/horse flies you would attract:eek:;)

PS: Has anyone tried the army shop on the Curragh camp??. Have picked up some good stuff at reasonable prices down the years here:)

Will be waiting until it's too cold for that lark to go stalking with you so! :p

Looking to get decent stalking kit this year myself. Combats and a US army surplus jacket from yonks back did not keep me too warm or dry last year, so good to see recommendations. Both the Deerhunter and the Harkila stuff seems good and relatively reasonable.

lads if you want a reasonably priced kit that will last a 3-4 yrs deer shooting.. Deer Hunter is the go....
Im in my 4th yr shootjn deer and still have my first Deer hunter kit...

Ripped and torn and never been washed.... never wash your kit...deer can smell DAZ a mile away.....

! bit of advice I will give is: (make sure no one is looking) Roll around in the land(grass) and some deer scat..

Enjoy the hunt(stalk) and dont Brag about the one that got away....!!!!!

Kids gave me them for christmas find them great nice and light and waterproof windproof only fault is they are not insulated base layers needed for cold weather well worth the money

I need to get in some retail therapy after a fairly **** time recently - anyone try this crowd -
    http://www.myhuntingshop.com/
They have reasonable shipping costs but are based in Germany - Germans usually won't put your mobile number on the address label so delivery depends on whether the courier is in the form for searching for you house or not.

For light clothing I can't recommend http://www.sodgear.com/ highly enough -
english isn't their strong point though but they have extremely fast shipping.
I see they have new pants out but what I have are the Para ones.

McBride in ballykeernan Athlone sells laksen, Harkila and Seeland clothing.
    (Very expensive though, saw a jacket for €3 or 400 + )
