Al Jazeera Changes?

Can somebody tell me what is happening with Al Jazeera. I hear that it may be reduced to 8 channels and I have a renewal coming up so not sure what to do. Can anyone shed some light on what changes are afoot.

Also does Al Jazeera have to be renewed before the card turns off or can it be renewed afterwards?

Most honest advertisers are stating that 9-10 will close at end of year. I had read somewhere here that there was possibility of replacing with a sports news station, but i don't think any concrete plans are available.

In any case, I decided to renew for 1-8 and upgrade after Christmas if anything worthwhile is added.

My card had expired in May, forgot about it and eventually renewed it yesterday. All working fine today.

    Edit:

    irishchris checked with techdigital here.

"Currently the channel 9 and 10 will only last till end of this year unsure what are Al Jazeera plans after that.
There are currently no plans for HD channel on Hotbird"

I'm about to get an Al Jazeera card and I was wondering if an old Dreambox 500s would be OK or should I purchase a CAM and use a standard receiver.

And under both scenarios, are there any differences between the Viaccess and Irdeto cards on Hotbird?

I don't own a Dreambox, but apparently Al Jazeera will work.

Last year people were suggesting the Viaccess card as it was the newer version. Other than that, no differences.

dm 500 works perfectly. have been using it on an aljaz irdeto card for 2 years.

I was using the Viaccess version on my Vu+ up until it expired some months ago - no issues. It worked perfectly in TM6900 before that.

I was thinking of getting a new card with 1-10 but after this thread, I think I'll just stick with 1-8, possibly just upgrading my existing card.

Renewal is the way to go! Should be a bit cheaper, no postage costs and much much faster receipt. Hopefully Al Jazeera come up with something interesting in December, or at least use the extra space to improve picture quality.

Love the card though, excellent value.

I renewed my +1/+8 pack yesterday for 12 months for €69.

Not checked to see if it's done yet, I only sent through renewal yesterday. How long does reactivation/renewal usually take?

Mine was next morning. Its a Friday-Saturday weekend in Arabic countries, so i'm not sure if it makes any difference. I put mine in on Sunday and was working Monday morning,

I was also quoted that price on one particular site and the transaction didn't go through because my irish bank doesn't want to do business with the vendors country!? Had to cancel transaction and go via paypal.

Just checked my subscription there at the Al Jazeera web site, my card is activated with the right package. Gave my receiver a quick retune and the channels are working now.

Delighted at the cheap renewal cost!

I paid by Paypal first time, no problems at all. Can't get over the price though, great value.

decent price alright! I paid an extra 11 euro!:o

Still happy out with it today though. I must sort something for HD sport later on in the month. One minor concern is the amount of French football. Last night just about every channel was showing it and it was arabic-french commentary choice.

I actually like seeing some french football, but if this gains popularity as a french card, maybe we could lose more of the english audio options?

Where did you renew for that price?

Yeah - where are you guys renewing from? The Al Jazeera site won't let me renew due to IP restrictions, are you proxying or is there an intermediary site somewhere?

    www.jsc-cards.com

I then checked at the Al Jazeera website via proxy, created an account and sure enough my subscription was all in order. I could check my card details, packages I subscribe to and the expiration of my subscription and when it was activated.

€69 is an absolute bargain if you are renewing. I found another site doing renewals for €60 but I'd never heard of them before so figured for peace of mind I'd go with a known name.

I'm delighted with the Al Jazeera package. It's been great the last 12 months so I'm sticking with them, regardless of what people say about the PQ, at least Al Jazerra are a trusted brand with familiar pundits. :)

Yup, thats the one that AIB visa don't want to deal with! They are based in Jordan (which is AIB/Visas problem, i think) and also have an ebay page. Its a bit more expensive to go through their eBay link. Good fast service.
