Switch Sky+ to Saorview - advice

    Hi Guys

I currently have a Sky+HD box and a Sky+ box. Recently the family have really only been watching the FTA channels (BBC HD, ITV, RTE ect) and I'm seriously considering cancelling Sky and switching to Saorview.

The only thing holding me back is the install - I'm not sure what I need and if I'll be able to use my current sky cable set-up.

I'm hoping if it's not too expensive that a PVR could be incorporated somewhere into the "new" system .

Any recommendations for boxes ect or anyone with advise on the whole sky/saorview switch-over would be really appreciated.

    Thanks :)

You don't get any British Channels on saorview. You only get the 4 Irish analogue channels and 3e and rté news now.

Of course you could just cancel your sky subscription, and keep the box to watch the British FTA channels, by taking out your card, but then you cannot receive the Irish channels.

If you really want to get rid of sky you could buy a saorview box for your tv and have those 6 channels on one output and then the FTA sky on another output.

Get rid of the Sky box - it will be kludged and difficult to use otherwise with scrambled and free channels all mixed in.

Get a Combo HD Box - they do Saorview and all the Free British stations on one box, in one channel list - seamless. The cheapest one is the Ferguson Ariva 120 HD Combo - see the terrestrial forum for the massive thread on it (link below) - €99 for boards members. You simply connect the existing sat connection from existing dish into it and an aerial for the Saorview part.

Thanks for the response - that solution sounds perfect :) Finally get to say goodbye to Sky.
