    Hi ,

Playing a society event here on Monday and looking for any insight e.g. How long does the 13th play ? Also are greens fast or slow etc... Is it tight or wide open , lots of water or not ? Thanks for any advice , want to get a little bit of an edge .

    Cheers

played it once last year, thoroughly enjoyed it cos I shot my best ever round but even if i didn't it was nice. I hear if the wind blows its all bets are off, very tricky, my day it was calm. anyway the greens were good with nice roll. not sure how u hit em but first for me was a drive & 8 iron (from back tee) and the 2nd a par 3, easy 8 too. first par 5 dont go for it in two, some nicely placed bunkers to catch em, grr lol theres a par 4 early, maybe the 4th it's a short tee shot, i hit a 5 wood & it was only a sand iron in, well it spun right back almost into a gully short of the green so be careful there with generating spin, so maybe punch a wedge in low or something. can only think of the last few holes now so working back, 18, very long par 5, 3 shots on here is fairly good, scenic drive from elevated tee, dont go too much right with the 2nd or a big tree will block u out on approach, grr, had to cut an 8 in there. 17, par 3, i hit a 9 from elevated tee, straightforward, 16th long par 4, drive with a cut ideal, you wont see it land then a long iron in to an elevated green, 15th, par 5, straight as you see it, try to score there. 14th, huge slope left to right from tee, very hard to hold the fairway then a mid iron in but green not too bunkered as i recall so you could even bounce it in off the hill left here. 13th i think was a lovely par 3 from a massively elevated tee, think i hit a 5 wood and saved par from bunker. anyway duno if any of that is of any use but there ya go.

Very open course..personally hate it but know it inside out.
    Very little water..
13th...get the 3 iron or 3 wood out...better to overhit it on this hole

alot of bounce on the course.... so if you're a low hitter of the ball, you want to hit a good bit before the green as it's a very hard ground.

Thanks Guys , thats exactly the sort of info I needed . I had it in my head that the 13th might be like an 8 Iron or something cos it was high up , but sounds like it only plays maybe 40/50 yards shorter than the actual distance.

While I like playing new courses , im slowly realising that local knowledge is a massive advantage in society outings . Nothing worse than hitting a great shot and then realising theres water or tough bunkers ahead.

I'm bored :-), so here you go

1st - Drive, straight down, should land between the two trees, then it's around a 9 iron or PW, easy green
2nd - depending on the wind, PW to an 8 iron, don't underclub, cause the bunker in front is nasty to get up and down
    3rd - I use a 5 iron here ... don't need a driver.... bunkers in play if you do...and if you use a 5 iron, you're left with a 7 or 8 iron ... don't under club second shot cause there's a water trap before the green.
4th -Drive and an 8 iron should do it....tricky green depending on where flag is, it's two tiered, with bunkers left and right.... actually bunker in play off the drive as well.... don't hook it off the tee....train tracks on the left !!
5th - PAR 5... drive down the dip...preferably left fairway ... I would let a 3 wood rip then cause with the bounce you can get there in two..
6th - ... Simple par 4, you could drive it and leave yourself a SW... should be an easy 4
7th...A good drive is needed here....a cut would be good, and a longish second shot
8th..Par 3...surrounded by bunkers and hollows...8 iron so it's short but you need to hit the green
9th .. nice Par 5 .. a nice .. aim toward the big tree ... 3 wood and you'll probably leave yourself a short PW or SW.....it's a nice hole...

I may come back and do the back 9 for you :-P

Thanks Dr Silly , that's a great help. It's gettin close to player of the year time , and I reckon I'm in contention , so I'm lookin for any edge , so your boredom is my gain !

    Appreciate the effort.

I want an update on how your round goes after this :-)

10 .... important to get a straight drive here....water on the left...if you go to the right you won't have a shot to the green...hit it centre and you'll have a short iron in
11 ..... I recommend a 3 or 4 iron....there's a little gulley here at the end and you can reach it with a 3 wood so don't go in there....
Also...the more right to the fairway you get...the easier your second shot is over the trees....stay right of the green...left is a bunker
12 .... a 3 wood or driver .. need to cut it if you can as it's dogleg right...careful of the two bunkers on the right.... then it's an 8 or 9 iron to the green..
13 ... we spoke about earlier
14...worst hole on the course !!!! madness of a slope from left to right so hit it way left....long second shot as well...again...aim way left !!
15...discussed earlier...careful...there is water to the short left of the green if you're going for it in two
16...tough hole....long cut drive ... and a long blind second shot that requires accuracy
    17...SW or PW...say no more
18...nice finishing hole...you won't reach this one in two
depending where you're teeing off, you can either go over the trees or try a draw ...3 wood...and then around an or 9 iron

what are you playing off ?
It's quite an easy course to score well...especially on the front 9

Cheers for all the tips Dr. Silly , definitely helped my game .
Ended up with 37pts , but left a lot behind me . Lost balls on 15 and 16 in what I would call short rough :( and ended up with just 1 pt between them which was my main downfall. Highlights were starting off Par,Birdie . On the 14th hit a great drive way left as advised and it ended up 2 ft off the fairway on the right , 9iron to the green and 2 putts for 4pts. Hitting into a strong wind on 13 so went with the driver and finished right of the green pin high , ended up with 4 . All in all a good day out , nice course , fairly forgiving especially the front 9.
Was in the locker room after and one of the other guys says to me me "I hope all those tips you got on Boards helped you today" !!! Think my username is too close to real life :)
