Main requirements for Photoshop?

Just throwing this out here. Does anybody have experience with PShop or similar photo/video editing software. Aside from extra RAM, what hardware would make the most noticable improvement with Photoshop?

i.e. GPU acceleration better than a better CPU, opinions on scratch disks, the benefit of an SSD etc...

Thoughs? I'm thinking of an ordered list from most important(what would make the biggest improvements) down to least improvement (or not worth the expense).

    Have a read of this:

Basic summary is RAM and then CPU is most important. SSD doesn't help that much, especially if you have a nice amount of RAM.

As for a GPU for CUDA, everywhere I look there's mixed reviews. The majority seem to suggest that it only helps with photoshop for specific specialised tasks, and won't do much for day to day stuff. The consensus is that a GT 240 will pretty much max out on any extra performance you need. This is all 3rd hand information though, so you should probably have a look yourself.

RAM, followed by CPU. That is pretty much all. I can run photoshop flawlessly on my old dualcore laptop fine, as it had a stupid amount of RAM to begin with (4GB, which was a ton of the stuff 3 years ago.)

I don't think GPU has much of a swing on it, TBH.

An SSD is good if you're just occasionally using it and want a fast open rather than having it open all day. If you're working with large volumes of files, speed increases with RAID can be worthwhile.

That's an interesting article. Although there is no mention of multi-threaded CPU's.
Also, I thought Photoshop uses OpenGL and not CUDA?
