Anyone know what a company can do if they can not locate a shareholder?

Can they get the shares struck off?

From googling I have found that nothing can he done if the shares are still active.

If there was a forced sell of the shares during a merger or something the money needs to be held for 12 years.

This is the gist of what I got from multiple sites and probably flaky as best whether it can be trusted.
