    2001 Mondeo Zetec
Yellow warning engine oil light has just come on.
Can't get the blooming oil cap off, don't have the right oil anyways (takes 5w30, only have 10w40).

Dip stick shows below min, oil black enough.

Qn - would it be safe to drive to the nearest garage tomorrow ? (15 K) Should I try to get the correct oil or is the one I have OK ? Any tips for getting the oil cap off ?

I wouldn't anyway. Those engines can start burning oil as the miles pile on, so you're probably best to change for a thicker grade oil now to reduce the oil consumption in the long run.

Use a cloth or old T shirt/whatever, works wonders as your gripping a larger area ;)

Alternatively if you have a funnel small enough put 0.5 litre in through the dipstick in 100ml amounts running the engine in between additions :)

For top up 10w40 would do fine :)

I'd stick to the manufacturer's recommened grade of oil.

Any oil is better than none!

Presuming the OP just wants to top up before he does an oil/filter change using the correct oil.

Yellow light of any kind drive it to the garage and get it checked out ASAP.

Red light of any kind get the garage to drive to you (or release your hand brake :D )
