Hi All, I have a Dell Inspiron Mini and suffered a virus hit ( I think from Skype) which was cleaned up by AVG hopefully eliminated. Did a full scan to make sure. On re- Boot I have no wireless connection, on a search for networks it cannot find my Belkin Router, but finds a distant unconnectable source. The router is showing up on my phone so it's broadcasting ok. The wireless signal quality icon has also gone from task bar. Mobile O2 works fine, but I would like to have the wireless facility back, any help would be really appreciated,

There is probably malware still on your notebook. Some of these malwares disables your wireless connectivity.

Plug a network cable directly from your router into the notebook, and download & run MalwareBytes Anti-Malware.

It's free and can be downloaded from :
    http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free

Edit: I've removed one particular malware from 7 different laptops over the past 2-3 years. This malware disabled the wireless and kept throwing up screens asking you to purchase an anti-virus product. Out of the 7 laptops, 3 of them did not have any virus/malware protection while the other 4 were running AVG free but no anti-malware software.

It's just my opinion, but I find a combination of MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) and MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, both of which are free, work very well in keeping viruses / malware away.

I ran the Malware Bytes and result was good- nothing found. I used system restore a couple of times 'till I got my wireless icon back and it's working again, having to power down the Belkin router often, to get a connection. When I used system restore I seem to have lost the Malware Bytes had to download again. Thanks again for your help.
