Ministers can now use Bus Lanes

So Ministers(most) lost their Garda drivers so couldn't drive in the Bus Lanes but now they have given themselves permission to drive in a bus lane.

Pure Bollocks really. Where could they be going that is in such a hurry? Opening a local shop, getting to the Dail(leave earlier) and other such made up reasons.

just another "we're better than you filthy commoners" rule...

They should stop pussyfooting around and paint themselves dedicated lanes like the old Communist politburo would have used.

Rapidly getting that way here anyway where the will of the (EU) state superceeds the will of the people :(

I'd rather have them working than sitting in traffic.

Just get up a bit earlier in the morning like the rest of us plebs.

They don't just travel in the morning!

I don't really see a problem with this. They need to move around alot from place to place at various times of the day. They getting paid the same regardless I'd rather they spend more time working less time commuting.
Besides there aren't exactly loads of Ministers its not going to make a difference to anyone else

They may have lost their Garda drivers but they were given money to hire civilian drivers!
Agree with you though. If they're in such a hurry, they should ensure they leave plenty of time for their journeys ..... or just get the bus or train like the rest of us.
    It's absolutely pathetic.

Who says they are going to work any longer. Finish earlier more like. Out of curiosity, do state cars pay tolls?

More then likely and I'd say it's expansible.

I don't see anything wrong with it per se if it makes them more efficient. My BIG worry though is that this is the thin-end of the wedge and they will gradually introduce or re-instate other privileges as time goes on.

Does anyone know what cars they have now that they use their own? Most of the FFers had Mercs or Audis. I thought Barry Andrews showed a bit of taste ordering a Citroen C6 though... I know before the elections Kenny had an oldish E-class and Rabbit had a Primera or something equally forgettable...

I'm also a Citizen of this state and using the bus lanes would make my day more efficient so why shouldn't I use the bus lane as well(during bus hours)?

    Certainly. Take the bus.

Should a minister take a bus?

On one level, I'd agree with you, but when you realise how out of touch the Fianna Failures like Cowen and Ahern and Martin were after 18 years or whatever in government...what did these bastards know about sitting in traffic for 3 or 4 hours a day due to poor transport infrastructure? If those FFailure crooks had to battle the urban traffic in Ireland the same as the rest of us, you can bet a hell of a lot more would have been done to sort it out during the decades they were screwing us.

Why not? Again, it might give them an insight into the sort of anti-social bullshtye the rest of us have to put up with, and they might do something to sort it out.

I really think people are blowing this out of all proportion

Now we are getting to realms of treason.

The Garda Fleet Manager used to order the ministerial fleet by tender. Now they use their own cars and claim expenses but have drivers.

I think it's cheaper and open to less problems to have a state fleet in the long term, they're just sitting there idle now!

Yup. Bring back the glory days of Fianna Failure, they were all about efficiency.

An important point, If FG are given perks like this they simply won't understand or appreciate how an efficient road network can impact peoples lives.
Let them spend hours at a time in traffic, although Enda Kenny's so full of hot air he will just float to the dail!

Jesus Christ I come here to escape listening to this crap on TV.

Do people seriously stalk the motors forum until the word "POLITICS" gets mentioned and then swoop in and start talking crap about whatever party is in charge at that moment?

It was people 'escaping' from thinking about this stuff that led us all down the swanny! :)

The topic is suitable for Motors, but the conversation will never avoid political rants. Thread closed because it can't be moved.
