Does this sound like a collateral ligament injury?

My knee started clicking and popping about a month ago and gradually happened more frequently. At first it only clicked when I brought the leg back completely, but started popping when I only bent it half way. Soon after this I stretched and suddenly got a sharp pain in my knee. The pain only occurs when I stretch it, and otherwise the leg is strong and stable.

However, a few days ago I simply stretched a little bit (before I had to stretch it as hard as I could) and the same thing happened, and it started popping and feeling loose even as I raised my leg to cross it. I went to A&E and the doctor thought it might possibly be the PCL but referred me back to my GP, who said it was most likely in fact the collateral ligament (not sure if it's the medial or lateral).

Do my symptoms fit either of these? I'm starting to not trust doctors, neither of them were positive and my GP just gave me a week's worth of anti inflammatories and sent me away. It's back to just clicking when I bring it back but I'm terrified to stretch at all in the mornings. What does this sound like to you?

If you're not happy with your doctor's diagnosis go to another doctor.

Your not happy with your doc and youd prefer an internet diagnosis? Go to a physio.
