My PCs disk drive refuses to read any CDs/DVDs including the laser cleaning disk. I know its dirt. Any ideas on how to clean the laser? Any good cleaners on the Market?

It's not the laser. Up tillThe other day it had been stuggling to read disks. I should have cleaned it then. The tower and it's fans have been covered in dust. Gave it a good clean out but can't clean the disk drive

Most thorough cleaner is a small bit of methylated spirits and a cotton ear bud cleaner thing. Take the drive out of the computer, open it up, clean the eye with the cotton bud dipped in the methylated spirits.

There is CD cleaners available, but basically all there are is just a CD with a brush in the middle of it so the brush runs over the eye. Doesn't do a huge amount imo.
    Something like this,
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hama-DVD-Laser-Cleaning-Disc/dp/B00005UPDF/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1312192305&sr=8-1

But once your careful opening the drive won't do any damage.

Dont use meths - the purple colourant in it will leave a dusty-film when it dries. This residue is also highly abrasive. Use isopropyl alcohol - you can get a small (50ml) bottle in most pharmacies!

Compressed air into the cd drive can probably help if it is only dust on the lens.

Worked a threat. Stuck a straw into the disk drive and gave it a few blows! ty
