Set up free to air, RTE , TV3.

I going to remove my mothers Chorus and install a free to air system. I need RTE 1 and 2 and TV3 also.

We have an RTE aerial no TV 3 aerial and I'm wondering how to connect the RTE and the TV 3 aerials to one input in the back of the tv?

Also, having RTE1 on channel one, RTE 2 on channel two, TV 3 on channel three and free to air on channel 4 is this the only option I have or can I feed them all in to one input ?

How do find out which way to point the TV3 aerial. I live in west Limerick.

Which direction is the existing aerial pointing? Do you receive TG4? Can you identify the channel no./frequency of RTÉ1 & 2 from the existing aerial?

Is your existing aerial like this VHF - http://www.peats.com/cgi-bin/catalog_v2.cgi?type=product&id=4439 or this UHF - http://www.tvtrade.ie/tv-and-radio-aerials/uhf-aerials.html? If it's like the VHF aerial it will cease to be of use by the end of 2012 as the analogue channels will be replaced by Saorview DTT and a UHF aerial required.

Right now depending on which transmitter you are pointing at you will require a UHF aerial for analogue TV3/TG4 (if available from your local transmitter). The UHF aerial required will depend on which transmitter/frequency is available locally. If your existing aerial is a VHF type, this diplexer will combine both a VHF and UHF signal down one cable.

If you move to Saorview DTT, bypassing analogue RTÉ/TV3/TG4 only one UHF aerial will be required but a Saorview DTT TV or set-top box will be required.

Thanks Cush, alot of information there, not sure what type of aerial we have it as out 5 ft long and 2 foot wide. We have no tv3 aerial, always received tv3 from chorus.

The VHF aerial looks like the one in the link but another part at one end.

From what your saying, if I get a saorview set top box I will only need one UHF aerial and from that I'll get RTE 1and 2 and tv3 tg4.

If the narrow end is pointing south you're picking up Mullaghanish, if north it's Maghera.
