Building a council house - advise and info needed

I was wondering if anyone knew if the council still build houses on the basis you have land? My partner and I are both working on and off. I was let go a few years ago now and am mainly doing courses but soon hope to secure a p/t job and still searching for f/t. My fiance is in the building trade which is slack and so is also doing courses to improve his job chances.

We were talking about building in the future when things hopefully improve.. and it got me thinking. We are already on a housing list but as we moved a few miles out of the city we have to reaaplly for the county list. GALWAY. His parents have land and there are two sites that we could use to build. Ofcourse ther is no hope at the moment of us getting a mortgate so I was wondering if building a council house might be the way to go?

It is an option - we also love the house we live in currently but rent allowance is ofcourse a temporary thing and so we are jsut looking for something more secure for our family. We have even considered a mobile home if needs be.

So anyone had any experoience with building a council house. How do I go about it, what options do I have if any?
