so after three rounds of voting we've come to the final stage, the final battle!...10 shows have been chosen by YOU!, now you must decide which show is the most overrated show?

To even things up and stop vote rigging this round you'll only be able to choose ONE show, no multi voting....think it makes things more fair. So get cracking, poll closes next Sunday

I'd never even heard of Breaking Bad 'til these polls started. I'm now into Season 3 (

Hank's just been shot by Tuko's creepy cousins

), so thanks to those who brought it onto my radar.

It does honestly baffle me though how Mad Men seemed not only to invoke such a degree of ambivalence but also vehement dislike. Is it that it's perceived to be overly stylised at the expense of an emotional core? Were folks bored to the point of opting out by its slow build in Season 1? Does its depiction of the misogyny inherent in the Ad world at the time rest uneasily with some?

For me, the writing has been consistently sharp, casting and performance are top-notch and the non-linear narrative has often given compelling insight into the back story.

Following a great pilot, Breaking Bads Season 1 slowed its pace and became quite a dark and difficult watch. I also know some folks who simply couldn't make it to the end of The Wires first Season. The cable networks afford their writers and creators far greater opportunity to bed the show down, find their rhythm and build audience gradually. Sometimes a show will simply never grab us but there are others where a degree of perseverance is richly rewarded.

I went for Glee. While it had a decent first half of Season 1, with lots of potential, it has gone downhill since. It is very much overrated, and doesn't deserve the critical praise and ratings it gets. It's cliched, over the top, and just goes around in circles.

While Mad Men is highly overrated too, I can see the appeal of such show. And the main characters do give great performances too.

went for glee myself. watch about 4 or 5 eps but couldnt stick it any more.

i can understand why people think mad men is over rate but i think its a great show, one of the best ever imo.

richard you put dexter in two rounds of polls....have a bit of bias for it do you ?? TVD should really be in instead of it, Dexter only got 9 votes in the second poll you conducted.

obviously the manner in which you've selected the above shows is open to dissection and disrepute, the likes of boardwalk empire got 29 votes for being overrated and the big bang theory only got 16 yet that's in ahead of boardwalk. nonetheless, i went with Mad Men. such a sh1tty show. hope it gets cancelled in the near future, it serves no purpose to television.

BE came fourth, thus excluded. Dexter was listed twice, round 2 + 3
Human error, however it did not win in round 2 with only 9 votes, thus excluded:

Round 2 saw two shows tie with 33 votes each, i decided since it was a tie to include both in the final round.

Pointless voting. Dexter was in the second poll and was well away from being in the top 3 (see: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056329085 ). Also Seinfeld (even though I was never a fan) shouldnt be in this poll. Because there was a tie for first place Richard reckoned this meant that 4 shows had to be included . Also Richard, is the US the only country that produces TV shows? Judging by your 3 threads on this topic you dont seem to realise that the UK (and even Ireland) have produced a number of popular shows that could be considered "overrated".

You didnt really. You admitted it was human error but you havent corrected the mistake. As alcomoholic said, TVD should be put into the poll and Dexter removed. Also I had a question about Seinfeld being in the poll....

Given how huge the show was, my choice would have to be Seinfeld.

1. Don't think it's aged well
2. Jerry wasn't funny
3. Kramers schtick got old quick
4. Elaine - explain?
5. Costanza was comedy gold, stand-out character and performer
6. Much like Curb, it was overly formulaic

Cheers was a far better example of broad US comedy brilliantly executed imo.

If you put the 4 of them together it might make one half normal well rounded person. However instead of having an intelligently written character they just use the 4 of them, having different takes on similar experiences all the time, frequently used as plot devices or internal monologue. And the punning. Christ.

I will never understand what propelled this show to such levels of popularity that it spawned two awful movies.

I'm a fan, i embrace all it's flaws and enjoy it for what it is.

Seinfeld was worse then 2.5 Men, nary a laugh in Seinfeld....least Men has fart and masturbation jokes and tons of hots chicks, it's a cave man's show...god bless! :cool:

What does that prove?
Seinfeld pulled in 18+ million for 5 seasons in a row. In it's final season it got 21 million & was the #1 ranked show that season.
So if you want to go by ratings, Seinfeld wipes the floor with Two & Half Men.

Now, I'm not saying Seinfeld is better because of ratings. It's just better because it's funnier.

ye can argue this forever its just purely down to taste, in this case seinfeld tied for second, and 2.5 men didnt make the final poll, it doesnt mean anything just that of the 90 odd people here dont really fancy it,

in some cases trash is trash, in other cases the more popular the show the more haters it draws, even shows like the west wing and the wire have there haters,

There really should've been a nominations stage - have the shows in the polls are barely rated, let alone overrated... and there's many more overrated shows that were left out altogether... I demand a recount...
