Just had a look at cars for sale on Adverts.ie , not too different from Donedeal in that there were some bargains , some overpriced and some pure shyte - kinda what you might expect.

What amazed me were the number of time wasters offering barter as opposed to cash , offers included bicycles , computers , beer making equipment , stereo's , etc.
Incredible how difficult it seems for sellers to actually find someone willing to offer cash and even then a realistic sum and not 10% or 20% of the asking price !

    Head wrecking I'd say

sold our 206 on adverts a few months back, had to lower the price a wee bit but got it shifted after a bit of a push to sell it.

I tried donedeal also but got no replies.

I've had a few items on adverts, never found it a great place to sell compared to the other sites I'd advertised on - a lot of timewasting *&$@%'s on it.

I have bought a lot of good stuff off it though.

Donedeal much better for selling stuff, Adverts is as said full of timewasters.

Would be a last resort for me.

Had a car on adverts.ie for ages. Got an offer of €2,000 cash. I accepted the offer within a few minutes and then the buyer said "sorry have only €1,500 cash"

    Time wasters paradise

Put the car on donedeal with the free ad they were doing recently and the car sold within one day (for more than what I accepted on adverts.ie)

I like to use adverts.ie as it is liaised with boards.ie and I like the email notification (a unique selling point) but for cars, I will not use it again...

The owners of adverts will need to find a way of getting rid of the time wasters if that's at all possible. Anyone any suggestions / thoughts?

Yeah... A lot of nonesense users on there offering trades. What I do like about though is is the way you can see all the questions others have asked. Good for certain items is say but maybe not so good for cars.

I never go near Adverts since Daft got involved and tried to make money from it. Too many garage ads on there now. Used to be a bargain basement like Gumtree and they have tried to make it more mainstream and upmarket. Comments section is useful though

I've bought and sold a fair bit on Adverts (not cars though) but agree that when trying to sell something the amount of time wasting and "I can get it here cheaper" here style crap is extremely frustrating.

Also had cases where I agree a sale and never hear anything more from the buyer.

As above the comments is useful but I couldn't imagine using it for anything high value like a car - I didn't realise about the Daft involvement but personally if I wanted to buy from a dealer I'd use Carzone or something.

I've bought well over 100 things online which probably ad up to about 3k and the only time I've been scammed is on adverts

Adverts is grand for buying and selling most things, but for cars though not a chance.

I was trying to sell my car on it there recently. I had it up asking for 2k, kept getting pestered by one chap to take it off my hands for 1k. He wouldn't take no for an answer and apparently he was "doing me a favour" wanting to take it off me.

Someone else offered me an old PC. Someone else wanted to swap for their old car. Someone else offered me a windsurfing kite or a cctv recording system, what the hell like.

Anyone that did offer me a reasonable amount just never got back to me.

I've also experienced all of the above.. The sites gone to bits and was best when it was still on the old forums :)

I sold a motorbike on it and got a few offers on a car I was selling but traded it in instead. Don't go near it at all lately as it takes too long to open every time I try to use it.

Adverts was great, unfortunately there is little or no moderation there and it's polluted with time wasters.

adverts.ie is grand if you are buying/selling bits and pieces or are willing to swap them for other similar things. Would not use it to sell a car though, too many timewasters and now they allowing dealers to use it meaning they are constantly uploading adverts of their stock which pushes the private adverts down to about page 5 or 6 which most don't bother viewing. And bumping an advert is then frowned upon by the mods there.

The idea behind it is good but sadly I think it is drifting away into advertising heaven due to poor management and the influx of idiots.

I've advertised every car I've ever sold on it and all I've gotten were timewasting offers or people telling me the car was wayyyyyy over priced and that they would give me a piece of string and a packet of corn flakes if I was willing to lower it to their budget.

I've sold bits and pieces on Adverts up and down and purchased on occasion too. It has its place for sure but timewasters are a problem.

It's the demographic of adverts. With the exception of a few students the average age seems to be about 14.

Tried once never again. Deal with idiots who'll insult you with stupid offers.

I was amused at the stupid swaps suggested - I'd say we could have a very funny thread just on that alone , e.g. '' I was offered half a dozen used condoms for my Fiat Punto '' :D
