And now my legs are in agony...

Firstly I must say it, the pain was to be expected. I have not exercised propely in about 8 weeks. Then I up and got a wild idea and went a ran a 5 mile race last night... Didint do too bad either just now my legs are crying..

Is there anything I can really do or take to help with the recovery? Any other tips much appreciated..

That'll learn ya:D As soon as you can jog, do, it'll help with recovery. Or if you can go for a swim even better.

    It sure will :)

So your saying that another run as soon as I can, would help with recovery? I thought this might just make it worse as it would put more strain on the muscles..
Will try a recovery run on Monday should be feeling ok by then...

Going to run another race on Wednesday hopefully :D

A very easy jog, it'll get the blood into the damaged tissue and flush out toxins. But should you be doing another race so soon without any proper training behind you? you could be inviting injury.

I might not have proper running training as such (have done a small bi of road-running0 but I play sport at a competitive level so have a fairly good level of fitness. I'm in the off-season now that's why I have been idle for a while...

Anyway, will run a handy jog on Mon and then I ll see how I feel on Wed. If I feel good then I will run it..

    Thanks for the advice
