    Hi,
hoping to go to Mater dei in September to study religion and english and was just wondering if anyone could give me any info on it, like how many hours a week in lectures, social life etc.

    Thank you.

Hey, i'm a second year in Mater Dei, doing the arts course. If you are doing the Religion and English course then you will be in around 20 hours a week. The college has the most holidays in the country so it's pretty relaxed, you will be in 24 weeks a year in total. You get a half day every Friday and there is plenty of time for going out. I'm not sure what the workload is like for you guys but it is something like one assignment every two weeks and you get one week to complete it. With regards to social life, there are plenty of good pubs in clubs around the area and you are only a ten minute taxi drive from town, so s'all good. If you have any other questions, send em' my way - Andy

thanks a million for your help. very insightful. Do you have any idea how full on the religion is?, am not religious myself and I have heard its very full on.

I personally haven't found it too challenging but it does vary from person to person I suppose. I myself am an atheist so being religious isn't necessary, nor is it forced upon you in the college, however it would be an advantage to have read some books on religion in the past so as to make the terminology and other such things a little easier but again most people in your year wont have done that, so you wont be at a disadvantage either. Feel free to ask any other questions =]

oh okay that's great, thanks a million. Yeah I did religion for the leaving so hopefully that will stand to me. What about jobs in Drumcondra? any work for students?

Yeah, I found that having done Leaving Cert Religion gave me a great advantage because a surprisingly few amount of other people in your year will have done it. As far as i'm aware there aren't many jobs going in Drumcondra but a lot of students find employment in the city itself depending on the experience that they already have in part time work. If you like you can add me on Facebook for convenience sake (You will more than likely meet me on your first day anyway because i'll be showing the first years around). Do you have any of the other MDI courses down on your CAO?
