Do cats and dogs know that it's the weekend?

Do cats and dogs know that it's the weekend? Have you ever thought that animals act a bit madder when it's the weekend?

I mean maybe they can sense that humans relax a bit at the weekend and they relax themselves.

Maybe it's confirmation bias but I really think that they sense something is different come Friday and Caturday.

Then again maybe it's just these beers kicking in...

    what say y'all boardsies?

I saw my cat necking a few pills around 10pm, then going fucking mental out the back with some of his other feline friends.

    So, I'd say, yes.

I think they react well to the extra attention or extra walkies and food, in some cases.

My terrier used to be very enthusiastic to see me when I was back at home from school, because he associated me with treats and adventures. So when he finally got three months of me every year, he was super excited. He probably didn't know it was Summer though.

But do goldfish know when it's pancake Tuesday?

It sounds insane but I agree.Im not sure about them picking up on the vibes of being off for the weekend but my mutt has a vomit EVERY monday.....

due to being left at home after having too much attention at the weekend,I think.

She is a rescue dog and part of it may be that she thinks we will leave her again forever:(

Of course they know it's the weekend- every seven days you get pissed and put on music, dim the lights and dance with the dog while the cats look on in dread of what's to come-which is you.

Would you not just ask them? Communication is at the heart of all good relationships, don't just guess.

Maybe he's just hoping with the extra time you're together you're more likely to pick up on the hint.

I think are very clever animal. My feline is very affectioate towards me but as much to my brothers and sisters. She always lies in my bed and sits on my lap but not with any one else:rolleyes:

Would dogs and cats eat in restaurants if such rights were afforded to them?

I say it is high time for equal rights for both, restaurants for our furry friends
and the same opportunities and chances in life that we so take for granted

The oppression and intolerance displayed to our "pets" which is just a convenient word for slaves, dressed up, is an abdomination that sees no sight of going anywhere, with PETA being a useless organisation

Signs saying no animals is pure discrimination, but people seem to be happy to ignore it as if it were acceptable.

Let them choose their own food I say! And legalize cat nip!

Definitely. In many ways animals are much better at reading body language than humans and can notice our different demeanour. And if there are certain things people only do at the weekend like gardening or going for longer walks the smarter ones would know that too.

Our old dog was a genius and knew when it was not only Christmas time but particulary Christmas Day, from the decorations and tree probably, but also because of the different atmosphere. He'd be much more excited as he knew there'd be nicer food and more of it available, and a more festive atmosphere.

Our old gundog (a Labrador) always knew when it was the night before a hunting day, because my father used to start eyeing him to see if he'd sensed something was up, then go "Oh God he knows! He knows!", so of course the dog knew (and barked the entire night). He still swears the dog knew it was Saturday night and that hunting happened on Sundays. My mother also swears our horses knew it was Saturday evening and that they'd be going to an event on Sunday. Again, the only reason they knew was cause they'd see us getting out the grooming kit and laying it out before we got them from the stable and started to beautify them. They can't tell the days of the week, they just read our cues. We had milk delivered every second day and one of our dogs used to carry it in for us, but he didn't know what days it came, he'd just go check every morning and bring it in when he found it.

The way you roll your eyes at this behaviour makes me worry for little Kitty next time she goes to curl up on your lap of rage.

I,ve noticed my goldfish tend to be more relaxed on the weekend...then on Monday they are back to a more active routine...

Yeah - my dogs love the weekend. Every Saturday, feet up on the table - a six-pack of stella beside them and Match of the Day on the telly. I don't get it myself - not a major soccer fan at all.

My cat tends to give me filthy disapproving looks at the Weekend as im usually lounging round the house all day, which seems to intensely irritate him. I think he likes his alone time he gets from Mon-Fri when im at work.

Yes they can. I had a German Shepherd who always knew when I would let him off for a run on the school playing fields. I would only unleash him on weekends when they were no games on or teachers about. He would anticipate it before we arrived there only at the weekend, I presume being aware of the increased number of children on the streets.

This! Yes they get it from some clues given either by us or things around them.

I always wished horses knew about Christmas so I didn't have to get changed out of my new clothes and take off my paper hat and go muck out their stables, feed and turn out like every other single day of the year. Stupid horses. They got extra treats on Christmas Day before we decided it was pointless anyway, that was for us, not for them.

The dogs get special things on Christmas Day because they're in the house and can sense the excitement and festivities.

and on the summer holidays did the dog extra time running around..?

Life is one long weekend for my kitty. On human weekends though he stomps around looking bothered as if to say 'gah haven't you gone to work yet?????' and then collapses in his bed under the weight of all the pressure.

My mother was distraught because her cat went missing for 24 hrs. This cat could only be described as a living teddy bear cat who just hangs around her back and front garden chasing moths.

Typical of a mother she said to me half sobbing 'she'll be getting hungry if she's lost out there' :o
