satellite New RTE Digital/Sky

    Hello
I have a sky plus and a sky(freeview) box in the attic. The sky plus and the sky freeview box are connected together via a splitter from RF2's output on each box to an amplifier. There are 4 'outs' on the amplifier I use three of the 'outs' and they feed three TV's so I have sky plus(Subscription) and freeview on all three TV's with Eye so I can control from all 3 and watch freeview or subscription sky on wahtever TV as I please.. Thats grand.

I wondered can i incorporate the new digital box RTE system saiorse from the attic? I will need an aerial on the roof which I can do. I can put the RTE saoirse box beside the sky boxes , is there a handy way of connecting it into the system that I have as described above?

    Thanks

    DECO:(:o

Why do you keep referring to Saorview as "saoirse"?

I think you will find you will get a better response if you use the correct terms to describe what you are trying to do and perhaps do us the courtesy of using a spell checker. Makes it easier to "get the idea" .

    Help us to help you

IF and that's a mighty big if, you had a spellchecker that worked as Gaeilge the word saoirse would have passed uncommented as it is spelled correctly. The tradename Saorview would not have passed uncommented as it is not a "real" word.

Why not give the guy a break? If you can help him please do, if not ignore him until someone who can comes along.

Read the post again, I was not referring to an focal as Gaeilge . Its not to much to ask someone to take a little care when posting, it shows courtesy and respect for other forum members and as I said will get a greater response .

Anyone in here able to help would know exactly what he meant. Therefore his spelling wouldn't be an issue.

Since this is a community forum courtesy and respect for fellow members is always an issue .

My friends use the wrong words for things, certainly at no point do I ever consider that they are being disrespectful and discourteous towards me by using the incorrect word. It means maybe they were not sure what the word was. In my humble opinion your reply to his post was discourteous and disrespectful as it came across as very belittling when all he wanted was a question answered.

Tony, Tony, Tony... You're better than that, or at least you used to be. :o

The guy is a noob, looking for help. He obviously doesn't know or understand the names and terminology. What's the deal then? Demand "respect" and if it's not forthcoming ignore and mock a poster who knows no better?

    Poor show. Very poor show.

I'd help him if I could. I would suggest that instead of a simple splitter he gets a three way combiner/splitter. Then he should set the RF output from his Soarview box to a channel that doesn't conflict with channels currently in use. I might be way off there but at least I tried.

You're missing myself and Cushs point. Lets just leave it at that as its getting us nowhere.

No, you're missing mine, but I will leave it at that as a lot can be read into the reply you gave him, cheerio. And btw, a simple spellcheck would have shown you that the word you should have used was you're, not your. Taking the time to use the correct words in here would show some courtesy and respect for fellow posters.

    16 posts, he's a noob.

I notice Cush didn't enlighten him then either , just made fun of him.

All he did was hand the guy a shovel so that he could dig deeper. Defend that.

Are you going to help him or not?

It's probably a question many people are going to come up with pretty soon.

Thanks for pointing that out , I've edited my post to show the correct spelling.

FFS, he made 1 spelling mistake. At least all the letters were there.

Would you like someone to pick away at the grammar in your posts? Grammar is often a lot more important than one wayward spelling when trying to express oneself. Looking back at some of your previous posts show that you're not particularly immune to making spelling mistakes either.

OP, wish I could help you, but I'm not overly familiar with Sky boxes or the amplifiers you refer to. Hope you find what you're looking for.

I didn't make fun of him, I asked him a question. His original post was confusing, referring to a satellite service requiring an aerial not an dish. When he clarified what he was referring to I gave him the best answer based on the information he provided. He didn't reply with his location which could identify his transmitter and the possible aerial required.

I've never heard the term "saoise satelllite" used in reference to Saorview digital terrestrial hence the reason for the question - it could have been a local satellite installer service.

givecredit replied with the correct term "Saorview" but he later opened this thread still using the word "saoirse". It annoyed me that he had not bothered to read the information posted earlier that day.

I believe he is, checked his profile and he has started a thread looking for help, can't believe the pomposity in here, certainly won't be a place I would come looking for help.

New members are advised to check through the threads for answers.
The OP has started 3 different threads all based on the same subject. http://www.boards.ie/search/?sort=newest&title=1&f=55&u=457928

Regardless of who is right and who is wrong and who is belittling any one.
What we get a lot of here in these ICDG threads is IT guys and technical guys looking for confrontation with Installers, guys trolling, guys taking the piss, Know all Joes giving out wrong information and some guys acting the complete fool regarding Saorview, Freesat Free To Air, Sky and Foreign satellite. There has been many a good thread closed because of all this. Tony, The Cush, Astral, Watty, Byte, Pal, Rippy, Stevoen, to name but a few are the Guys who keep these threads going helping the Genuine poster with there problems.

I don't see the OP coming out of any of the three threads any wiser.

Cush said "It annoyed me that he had not bothered to read the information posted earlier that day." I think the guy is reading but not grasping the concepts. TBH there wasn't a whole load of clear information presented to him. Not that anybody is obliged to do so. I'm just saying, that's all.

Why not just point him to a FAQ or something?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,341 ✭✭✭✭Tony

Deco has started another thread with his query here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056345583 so hopefully that will yield results . I'm guessing this one is headed for a lock :)

I included a link to the official Saorview website in my post in the other thread. Lots of links to information there.

I notice that some of the people who are posting in this thread hadnt any advice to offer other than get into a big barney about spelling and I am right, and you are wrong. Thats not helpful either.

This is a technical forum, why dont the amateur debating society go find their chums elsewhere.

Now what are you bringing to the party (besides trolling and amateur dramatics ?) ?
I believe he is, checked his profile and he has started a thread looking for help, can't believe the pomposity in here, certainly won't be a place I would come looking for help.

So exactly why are you posting in a thread when you have nothing to offer?

Honestly I just cant fathom why people think there is debate in every thread and get involved despite their lack of technical ability!

As already discussed you will be delighted to know that the OP has been looked after in another thread.

The people in the David Norris thread that you have been extensively posting in are awaiting your infinite wisdom! :) Hurry along, nothing to interest you here.
