How do you know if a relationship is over

Hi all, newbie here, my friend recommended I get some outside advice.
So here it goes, I've been in a relationship for 5 years living together for 3 although we have had our ups and downs its been over all a good solid relationship until recently.
We are very different people I'm very open and honest, he finds it hard to open up and internalises a lot.
Recently he's been away with work and I've had a very stressful time with a sick parent in hospital. Usually when he's away with work he'd contact me every night this time it took him four days to send a text, he hasn't responded to most of my texts.

I then got very angry that he hasn't been there for me at a time when i needed his support, he said he doesn't know what's going on with him and that he doesn't want to lose me.I know he has suffered from mild depression in the past and was medication before I met him and he does have a stress at the moment in his own professional life.

Our sex life has also deteriorated the last month or so.
To be honest I'm lost, I don't know if he feels its time to call it a day that he feels like were more friends now and he's pushing me to end the relationship.
Or if its depression and he can't deal with anything else in his life at the moment.
Any help or advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Better here izzy26 as you'll get more replies.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

    Hey OP,

Can you ask him to go to the Doctors? It could be that he's depressed. It's very usual that sex drive declines with depression so that would fit. If things have been good up to now then I'd be inclined to think it is depression. At least explore that issue before you get very hurt, it may be something completely outside his control. He said he doesn't know what's going on with him and that he doesn't want to lose you, I think you should take that as the basis to work on for now. So yeah a doctor would be a good starting point.

    Best of luck

    Hi Op,

take it from me, depression, no matter how small is quite serious. It messes with your head and can change who you are in an instant, ask him to talk to someone about it. He'll soon come back.
