thats the least of your worries. b12 reseves can last up to 3 years. there are vegetarian sources of b12 such as tempeh.

Have you had your B12 levels checked to see if you're deficient and what your current level is?

Quite easily. Just take a B12 supplement. Simples. :D

Everyone should take a B12 supplement regardless of diet IMO. Animal foods are not a reliable source of B12 to begin with.

    Thanks for the responses.

I never thought about getting B-12 levels checked. Thanks for that advice.

The supplements idea is not something I am keen on; but if it's the only way, then so be it.

"tempeh" is new to me, so will check it out.

I got a check-up recently and my B-12 level was okay, I think it was probably due to the B complex I take because apart from dairy now and then I don't eat any animal products. So I guess supplements do the job!

Or my stores havn't been used up yet? I never though about that before.

What was your level? In Japan, if you're below 550, they administer injections straight away as you're considered deficient.

make sure you get enough iron if going vegan. this i feel is the most important of all because you can become deficient in it very fast. spinach smoothies do the trick for me. i discovered this after being vegan for a year and felt incredible when i incorporated them

Good advice on the smoothies. Thanks.:)

Though I hate having to I would definitely take supplements if I did decide to go vegan.

Can I ask why people would become vegans? What is the ethos/thinking behind a vegan lifestyle?

Health, mostly. Also, I don't wish to contribute to any suffering if I can help it.
