Vw Passat 2006 remote key/ignition problem

    Drove home last night, no problems. Steps out of car, go to lock it with the remote...... and nothin nadda. Then try to lock or open with remote...still nothin. Jump into car and put key in ignition....push it in to try start and..........nothin, not even red light. I did however get a yellow steering wheel symbol on the dash, but nothin else. Anyone know whats goin on? I replaced the battery in the remote key...that not the problem.

    Id put money its your steering lock, they are faulty on them and hate to be the barrer of bad news but they are not cheap, iv replaced 2 under warranty and they hurt like hell:(

    ok. Would anyone know if the VAG.COM software you can buy would sort a problem like this?

    if its the same fault i think it is the only fix is replacing the part

    rang a mate, who suggested disconnectin the battery and then reconnect it. Bingo, car starts!!! However, the remote still wont open or lock car. Vw dealer suggests may need to have key recoded.
