You pay a student contribution fee of €2000 yes - you may also have to pay a Maynooth levy (UCD is about €200) and of course you will have to pay for any books etc

Do you have any other children going to college? you might also be eligible for the grant for your son as well if your income is less than 55,000 per year

You can get the grant forms at www.studentfinance.ie

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Well, yes you do pay the €2000 fee. But if you can qualify for a grant and you have paid that money already it will be refunded back to you. Or if you didn't pay it and produced a letter to the college that you have applied for the grant and once the grant is award to you, it will be paid too you. Although, there are different rates which is awarded to students so sometimes you might not get the full €2000 paid.
Then of course you have the students who don't qualify for any grant so they have to pay that all on their own.

It is worth having a look at www.studentfinance.ie. Paying for college can be so stressful for students and parents. :(

Best of luck with baby no.4. :)
