iv being on maximuscle since april 2nd. i have since stopped since yesterday, reason being the stuff is way too pricey and on further research there are shakes available that are just as effective at a cheaper and more affordable price. i bought matrix anabolic which contains double the protein in comparison to maximuscle but was skank to drink. iv being researching alot of brands, gold standard, usn etc... from experience which protein shake would you recommend. i have started my loading for creatine and need a protein shake to go along with it (aim is to put on muscle mass).

I've been through a fair few proteins, but IMO I prefer and have not gone back from USN Pure Protein IGF-1 (Strawberry :) ) for taste and results, if you don't mind the €45 price tag for 2.28kg. (I've never used Maximuscle because of the price)

remember its not magic muscle juice, its simply refined milk. So just get the one with the most protein content in it.

If your serious about getting protein into you a trainer told me to take some form of additional Amino Acids (took tablet form from Holland & Barrett or Boots) --
No matter how good the brand of protein is the reality is that:-

apparently your body sh*ts out most of the protein sadly

    - however the more 'amino acids' you have (these are like the cement in the building blocks of proteins themselves) the more able your body is to absorb the protein into the body rather than it pass through....

muscle milk - dislike, texture was not for me
kineticut - wasnt bad, wouldnt go back
matrix - felt it did me no use,
usn - fav so far, taste and result wise =0) recommend
syntha 6 - BEST flavor, brill gains, highly recommend
maximuscle - rank, worst tasting on the market, good gains

complete horsesh*t. amino acids are the ONLY building blocks of proteins. There's no 'cement' or what have you. All proteins are simply chains of of amino acids bound directly to each other in peptide bonds.

I think Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey has got a great amino acid profile for the price. I wouldnt necessarily agree thats its just milk extract... ok it is, but of different qualities. ON 100% has a good amount of glutamine so I take that when cutting, but I suppose just cram whatevers tastiest in when bulking. Reflex is the most delicioso IMO :pac:

Get a whey or casein based protein that has a minimum of 70% protein.
Look at the label on the back and read the nutritional information.
if it doesnt say 70g of protein per 100g, I wouldnt bother with it.

Alsom if you want to watch your weight, you really need to factor in the calories from the protein and the amount of carbs (esp sugar) found in the protein.

BSN Syntha 6 takes awesome cause there's so much sugar in it.

I go for a low carb whey like Nutrition X pro matrix.

As for USN IGF-1, this is a crazily named product that probably contains 0.00000001% IGF-1. IGF-1 is really expensive and to put it into a whey protein at any noticeable level would cost the company a shed load to make and subsequently would cost the punter a shed load as well

Okay forget about the cement ****e then, what about the point that you supposedly crap out a good bit of the protein thats in a protein shake? and is that true that Amino acids help take in more of the protein? What benefit is taking Aminos? I'm not up on all this stuff and am wondering...

You crap out undigested and indigestible food, your body does all it can to ensure it absorbs protein, carbs and fat.

Think of protein as being like a long chain made of many links. Each link is an amino acid. A type of enzyme called a protease is able to break the links of the chain into single links, ie amino acids which are then absorbed in the small intestine, carried to all cells (not just muscle cells) and used for growth & repair.

Therefore, no, ingesting amino acids doesn't make it easier to take in more protein per se, you are just ingesting aminos that don't need to be further broken down.

If you take in an awful lot of protein, the excess protein, mostly nitrogen containing compounds, can be excreted in urine, they are not expelled through egestion of faecal matter, ie, taking a dump

As described by Liam Henners above, Aminos are basically partially digested protein. These could easily be availible for protein synthasis sooner than protein, but the quantites are so small (a few grams verses 150-200g protein) that they most likely aren't going to produce any real results.
    Not worth the price imo.

As for protein shakes, get one with a higher protein content. i like ON Gold standard. But the rest of your diet needs to be in order. People try to relate the shake they took with their gains, which is retard as if bulking shakes make up a very small portion of your total cals (unless you go for a gainer that's full of sugar).

    this stuff is the business...
    http://www.universalnutrition.ie/product/60/240

bit more expensive than the others but its 30g of protein per scoop and virtually carb and sugar free... tastes pretty good too!

you ingest protein so you can break it down into the constituent amino acids, and then reassemble the amino acids into whatever proteins your body needs, be they enzymes, muscle tissue etc. etc. people take BCAAs (branch chain amino acids, these are just three specific amino acids that people think you need more of than regular amino acids) as well sometimes but i never understood it really.

id go with on gold standard whey as its very light and tastes lovely. i only use usn pure protein and on gold standard as i thought they were the best over the years of difference brands iv tried. only downside with usn is that i tended to feel bloated a fair bit of the time after i took it unlike on gold.
they are both 50euro most places and offer pretty much the same results. id definitely go with one of these. as for the cheaper proteins they tend to taste horrible and dont mix well at all
