    Hi
Anyone know a place in Dublin (or Ireland I suppose I can post it) that would repair this watch?

It is meant to be solar powered but it keeps saying to charge it even if it's left out in the sun all day.

    Thanks
    M

It probably needs a new capacitor, these are basically a rechargeable battery that the solar panels on your watch recharge.

Dunno if you will get a high street store to do it for you, Casio recommend it be returned to them for a replacement...they replace the waterproof seals as well.

I would be careful of any store offering to do it for you, ask them are they sure thats its a capacitor and not a regular watch battery they are putting in..... regular batteries are not made for recharging and they may not know the difference, they look the same.... and you would not know the difference, it will still work, even for a couple of years, but not good in the long run.

    For a DIY job:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/Casio-watch-Capacitor-CTL-1616-rechargable-battery-/270775715478?pt=UK_Jewellery_Watches_WatchAccessories_SpareParts_SM&hash=item3f0b7d8696
(make extra sure this is the correct one..... put your model # into Google and do a search for "capacitor")

Changes just like a regular battery, be EXTRA CAREFUL not to touch these rechargeables with your fingers (wear nitrile gloves or use a plastic tweezer), and do not use a tester, these can be damaged by either....all in all an easy job though.

It must be an old one....the capacitors in these are supposed to last over 10 years.

The ProTrek gaskets are an unusual shape and it's very unlikely any Irish jeweller will have them in stock. If the capacitor is old enough to replace then so is the gasket - simply putting back in the old one makes it likely that it will leak in future. Either send it to Casio or - if you're doing it yourself - buy a gasket on eBay. They're about €4/€5 or so.
