ok im a complete noob to pc/laptop gaming, always played consoles, so my question is: would 'left 4 dead 2' run well on my macbook pro 2011 mbp. its a 4gb ram, 2GHZ core i7, graphics are AMD Radeon HD 6490M 256 MB. is this ok? the graphics card bit confuses me. like is my card good or capable of running game easily? the game says it needs: ATI Radeon 2400 or higher / NVIDIA 8600M or higher / Intel HD Graphics 3000. sorry I'm a beginner to gaming. thanks in advance of any help!

It would run okay on medium/high settings.

It should be more than playable.

If you really want to game on your MBP put windows on it. On the same machine you'll find large discrepancies in performance between native osx vs native w7 Version of the same game.

+1 for this. If you look at any games that run on both OSes, and then compare the system requirements, the Windows ones will invariable be lower. I think this is primarily because the DirectX APIs that many games utilise on Windows are significantly better optimised than the alternatives available on OS X (e.g. OpenGL, which may in itself even be better optimised for Windows, probably due to greater investment in it)

left 4 dead 2 has a native mac client, have both the windows/mac version here on my imac and there's absolutely no difference at all.

that said if you want to play other games then windows 7 bootcamp is the way to go.

to be honest I'm not a pc gamer at heart I'm a console gamer, i just think left 4 dead looks reallygood. I'm not interested in buying other games for the machine so its kinda pointless and waste of money to install windows on my mac. its really just this 1 game i was gonna get, having said that anyone advise me to get left 4 dead 1 or 2? which is better of the two?

Get L4D2, Valve are in the process of porting all the campaigns from 1 into 2.
Also being Valve all the updates are free via their Steam distribution service which you will need to install to run the game.

While you're at it pick up the Orange Box and Portal 2. These are some of the best games ever made and should run fine on your machine.
