Incorrect Tax credits

    Quick question.

I am currently unemployed. My wife recently applied to have my tax credits applied to her. The revenue have just informed me that I had a Lone Parents allowance credit for the last 6 years although I have been married all that time. The credit was valid until I got married.
This was an oversight on my behalf, I had been in fulltime employment for 10 years with the same company and never really looked at any of my tax documents and assumed it would be removed when we married. What are the implications of this credit wrongly being applied to my tax allowance? Will I be fined or even charged with some sort of offence?

    Rgds

de one parent credit is worth 1650 euro per yr and was 1850 fr previous yrs so your are talking a lot of money. revenue can take it back over 4 yrs from your wage packet. I was getting a married credit after I seperated, I am still paying dis back, dis is my 3rd yr of repayments. Not sure how they will deal wit this case as you are not working. They will prob hav to wait til u workn again unless u decide to send them in a cheque.

It was 1830 worth of a credit in previous years& there was an increase in your standard rate band too, so if you were taxable at the higher rate, this could further add to the underpayments.

There's no specific time limit on how far back Revenue can review, I.e. They can go back further than the four years.

Your best option may be to request an installment arrangement of whatever you can afford per week. You would need to send in your request to your local office in writing.
