Claiming back tax after full-time summer work.

    Hi all.

I'm currently on a 3 month full-time contract for the summer. I've calculated that at the end of the contract I will have paid €100 in PAYE, €151 in USC and €125 in PRSI.

For the months either side of this contract I have worked/will work part-time for a different employer. This was/will only be about 7-8 hrs per week and I have paid no tax whilst doing this part-time work as I what I earn is below the minimum taxable amount. I terminated my employment at the end of May in order to start my full-time contract and will resume the part-time role after the 3 month contract is up.

As I don't use all of my tax credits in the part-time role, can I use those unused credits built up during the 9 months (Jan - May & Sept - Dec) to claim back the €100 PAYE tax paid during the summer?

    Thanks.

If you only worked 8 hours a week from Jan - May , you need to share with us what your income/circumstances were for the other 32 working hours every other week .

Did you live on an income of 8 hours a week from January to May ?

Sorry, I'm a full-time student which takes up the rest of my time. I work one weekend day per week either side of the summer.

It is your totals for the year that count - look at revenue.ie for various forms/guides etc.

As a single person on Paye ,you are allowed earn around €16,500 before paying tax .

If you do not reach this level , you wont have to worry about paye .

Ring tax office and tell them your earnings to date this year and they will issue a tax cert for your new employer

Thanks for the reply. So when the new cert is sent out to my next employer will I get a refund of the €100 PAYE I will have paid whilst in my current temporary full-time job? Will have to wait till year-end to receive this?

If its not emergency tax you will have to wait until the end of the year to claim it back:(
