Remote Locking Causes 10 minute flash on MG ZS 2005

    Hi Guys,

I am considering buying the above car on Ebay. Here's a link http://cgi.ebay.ie/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270785024230&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:IE:1123

I asked the seller to provide a list of all faults, or I would likely walk away from winning bid if faults were found. The NCT is out since January and the seller says he didn't realise this until the guards pulled him a few weeks ago. There are a couple of car park dents and the seller replied with the following:

As mentioned in the description the engine is due a service and timing belt. there are 4 seals on the camshafts, two of these have been changed & two need replacing. I have these seals but they can only be changed with the timing belt off.A new fuel pump was fitted only this week, It was a spurious part not a rover part and my mechanic recommended a new or S/H rover pump be fitted.A wire got broken on the Lambda sensor when the exhaust was being welded. The mechanic repaired it and it works fine but he recommended changing the sensor, a simple job.One of the reversing sensors is faulty but could easily be replaced. Since I got the car I have had to lock it with the key not the remote. If I lock it with the remote, the flashers flash for ten minutes. You can unlock with the key or remote. It needs a spare tyre. That covers everything.

What do you all think about this? Any idea why the remote locking causes this flashing? I like the car and need something cheap, that looks and runs decent until I get a few bob for a newer model. I don't mind spending up to €500 getting it sorted, but I wouldn't want to be spending much more. I have a mechanic who could do the work for me, but I can't expect him to work for free, or pay for parts. The lambda sensor, timing belt and fuel pump will cost over 300 alone.

The best place to find out about these problems is a dedicated MGR forum TBH as a lot of rubbish gets spoken about them.

RoverJames is a good one to as about them.

I like my Rovers as well but I'm afraid I'm at a lose to help you with the flashing lights

No NCT, sheload of faults and about €1k of work needs to be done (that you know about) on a 6 year old Rover with over 180k miles and he wants €1k+ for it?

    No thanks! :)

From the owner's reply it seems the fuel pump has been replaced. Dunno about the indicators flashing for 10 mins when car is fob locked, never encountered that.

OP it could need a resetting of the alarm system by an ex-MGR dealer but thats as much as I can find out.

It might be worth your while posting a question on mg rover .org or else rovertech

He said the part was not a genuine rover and his mechanic recommended one be fit. I'm starting to shy away from it tbh
