Back to Education Allowance/medical card student

    Greetings,

I was wondering if you kind fellows would be able to give me advice on my situation.

Basically, at the age of 24 after just under a year of benefit after being made redundant, I went back to college to study medicine. I stopped signing on and got a hefty loan (50grand so far and counting eek) from the bank to finance college. I have so far finished 2 years in this fashion. But now I'm thinking am I or was I qualified for the BTE allowance? I should mention that I already had a degree in Science.

Now I'm 26, entering 3rd year I live with my parents but they are unable to provide support to me besides a roof over my head. My sole source of income for day to day living is the loan, and even then things are TIGHT.

So my question is: Am I/was I eligible for BTE and am I eligible for medical card?

I have a feeling because its my 2nd degree I might be precluded from BTE and now I'm worried that if I WAS eligible, now I'm not as I dint apply at the start of college.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

You already have a degree in science so you wouldn't qualify for BTEA for another undergraduate degree, was it graduate entry medicine?

Since your doing a postgraduate course it's slightly different for BTEA but I think they still only cover higher diploma courses. As for the medical card the only way to is to know for sure is to apply.
