Truck rearends cars - ADAC crash test

This crash test by the ADAC shows the nasty result of being in a line of stationary traffic behind a heavy truck and getting rear ended by another truck. Speed is 70 km/h which would not be perceived as particularly fast by most people. And the truck that does the rear ending/squashing is only a 5.5 tonner i.e a small truck.

Scary stuff. If you are stationary in a line of traffic, an awareness of what's approaching from behind plus leaving yourself room to maneouvre to one side could be the difference between life and death

Its both amazing and a little scary what people consider 'not fast'

The NCAP for example tests cars at:
64kph head on (40mph vs deformable barrier -not a solid object)
50kph side impact (car to car)
29kph side impact (car to pole!!) That's 18mph in old money
