Wondering if anyone knows what could be causing this problem. I have a volvo s70 and the Demister Fan hot/cold works perfect , Air Conditioner etc all work perfect but when I turn the blower switch to blow hot air at the front window like to demist it if it was fogged up the Air con turns itself on with it so I just get freezing cold air blowing at the window. If I turn the blower towards me or feet it again switches off and works fine.Any ideas whats causing this?
    Thanks.

    I'm guessing that's normal

You turn to demist - so window is fogged - A/C will dehumidify air and clear fog quicker

Aye 'tis normal, same on my s40

That demister button tells the system to blow conditioned air out everywhere, including against your side windows. It's pretty efficient too I might add.

It's more for when you sit into a fogged car tho. What you're probably actually looking for during everyday driving is the 'head' button out of the head/body/feet set of buttons. Turn this on and control the fan as normal to have continuous direction of air against the windscreen.

I can understand why you were spooked. First time I pressed that button it scared the sh1t out of me! :D No-one expects the whole thing to go mental at the push of one tiny little button.

Thanks guys, seems your right. I was digging through the internet and came across the s70 manual and this seems to be normal but I normally use the blower to melt the ice from the front window in other cars even in older volvos that I had in the winter but I guess its a scraper this winter :D

No need for the scraper. Turn up the temperature on the climate control and that switch should blow warmer air.

You can have hot air-conditioned air too!
