    Hey Guys,

The Shamrock Bowl is coming up this Sunday, 31/07/2011.

The Dublin Rebels and the University of Limerick Vikings will go head to head again in the final of the Irish American Football League season.

The game is on this Sunday at Morton Stadium in Santry.

You can buy tickets online via ticketmaster

You can get them on the day from the stadium too as far as I know.

Should be a good day out and a good game of football, these two teams usually don't let the crowds down when they face each other.

Last years game was brilliant, looking forward to this now. What's the best way to get to Santry from Blackrock, haven't been there since I was in primary school.

Paddy Power has installed the Vikings as 3.5 point favourites.

This is on today at 4pm folks!

You can get tickets at the door only 5 or 6 euro I think.

Should be a good game, definitely worth the trip over to Morton Stadium.

It was my first experience of Irish American Football and although it was good to be at and I had a good time, I hope it wasn't typical of the standard of the game over here. Maybe it was nerves as it was the final and the wet ball but it was an error filled game with the Rebels winning because they made less mistakes. I was expecting a bigger crowd as well but maybe the wet day kept a few away.

I wouldn't say that game was typical of the standard over here. The standard of defense - yes. Both teams played solid defense. But both offenses were pretty sloppy. Turnovers, penalties and unforced errors everywhere. The wet ball was definitely a big factor. Games often get reduced to defensive slugfests when it rains, which is kinda what happened on Sunday. It happens at all levels of the game, though. Those games are never as sexy as a sunny shoot-out, but if you appreciate good defense there's still plenty to enjoy!

Don't give up on the IAFL, dude! We'll cut down on the turnovers next year, promise :)

Honestly any ball game is affected by the weather and generally its easier to defend because you dont have the ball.. look at how often attacks in rugby and soccer break down because the wet ball goes to fast or is badly controlled. all the defense have to do is hoof it away.

For the game on Sunday when you're throwing a wet ball even if your arms are perfectly placed it can still get away from you and as said it can be just as entertaining watching a team put up an excellent defence. Tbh I'd prefer a slugfest to one team hammering the other, there's no fun in that.

The rain really affected things alright, but it did lead to some great plays on defense, the interceptions were pretty impressive. Plus it was close till the end, which is always entertaining.

I got a few pics, just from the stands unfortunately, I wasn't one of the photographers milling around the pitch (they were ruining my pictures :p), so they're not great, but here ya go:

Yup full contact in the IAFL is 18+.

The Rhinos in Castleknock have a junior team though which is 16-17. Vikings who started this thread can help you out there. There is a couple of youth teams setting up around the country.
