Next summer my gf and I want to do some travelling, thinking of a month to 6 weeks. Just thought of it really but both really up for it so we want to get it sorted soon.

Looking for ideas where to go, anyone have similar experiences and advice for us?

Personally, if I had the luxury of 6 weeks off, I'd do what my sister and her boyfriend are planning this summer: take a car to France and drive down the coast towards Biarritz, San Sebastian (Donostia) and Pamplona before turning back and coming up through France... great surfing opportunities along that coast :)

Eastern Europe would be well worth a 6 week tour, you could spend a fortnight in Croatia alone! I've done about 3 weeks worth of travelling there over 2 different trips. Most of the places are cheap to stay, eat and party, there's plenty of other backpackers of a wide variety of nationalities to meet and loads to see!

You'd easily manage: Prague, Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna, Zagreb, Llubljana, Split, Hvar & Sarajevo into a trip like that. Well worth looking at the Danube ferry between Vienna, Budapest and Bratislava as a means of transport too... much more enjoyable than a long train ride!

Unless you like train rides :)

You could do the route of the old orient express, Paris to Istanbul by train and stop where you like en route.

Recently did this, and it was amazing.
