Laptop Screen Goes Blank

when i start the laptop up in safe-mode the laptop shows the desktop items etc it seems ok

but when i start it normally after i put in my password it takes forever to open up and when it does the screen is just black

now this is a highend laptop 8gig ram , quad core i7 processor and windows 7 64 bit

any ideas whats causing this as the night before last i just shutdown as normal

ive restored to earlier setting and still the same

Hard drive could be corrupted or could be a virus, among other possible things.

It could be the KSOD.

Have you any more info? It's a good thing that you can get into safe mode, try "safe mode with networking" and download the newest updates. Also, if you haven't already, download windows 7 SP1

But the best way to download SP1 on windows 7, is through your windows update service, the downloads are causing a few problems, and it is advisable to do it through windows update.

If it is the KSOD, there are many, MANY, different solutions, as each individual is affected differently, i have seen quite a few, and each time, was a different solution, maybe one or two were similar, but always different..

Update

when i start the laptop in safe-mode , as soon as i put my password in it lags and then opens , even when i log in with safe-mode with networking i can't access the internet

now when i log in normal , it lags soooo much and then opens up to a black screen and thats it

i was thinking of a complete re-install of windows 7 but i stupidly misplaced my disk 1 of the system recovery so thats out of the question for the min , any ideas ??

Is there a recovery partition on the hd.F8 on start up-repair my computer-log on to a acc-manufacture restore(or something similar)
