Vibration caused by mismatched wheel nuts?

    Looking for advice:

For as long as I remember I've been having a small but annoying vibration at speed that I haven't been able to track down, then yesterday I was bleeding the brakes and think I may have found the issue, but I need some opinions on this.

I've got five nuts on the wheels but one of them is a locking nut, as I took them off I noticed that the locking nuts were heavier than the rest, so I weighed them, there is 24grams in the difference.

Would a 24 gram imbalance, in the nuts be enough to cause vibration issues at speed? (I can't test it as I can't find my spare nuts today)

Use a nut of a rear wheel?

They all have the locking nuts, I'll dig though the shed see what I can find.

Put 2 locking wheel nuts on each rear wheel opposite each other and just normal nuts on the front (just to try).

    Ahh, good idea.

I wouldn't think so, as the nuts are fairly close to the centre of the wheel. Still and all, it'll do no harm to try si_guru's suggestion.

Not original, American Racing, they look like Torq Thrusts

you can be close... closer thasn 1 locking wheel nut alone.. plus the vibration isa like the front where the balancing will be spot on (wheel nut balancing anyway)..

donw this many times on 5 stud LRs to determine if a drive shaft is bent.

closer if you put all 4 nuts on teh same wheel I reckon.:D

##OP i assume uyouve checked for the obvious like a warped brake disc or sticking caliper...

Do you feel the vibration in the steering wheel or in the rear of the car/drive train ?

Could be a prop UJ... classic vibe problem on Land Rovers.

If the wheels and nuts are not standard fitment then it may be possible that when fitting same they are not centering correctly.
