As the title says, motherboard failure and I realised that I need to get some files of the HD.
Is there a cable that I can buy so that I can connect the HD to another computer and recover the files?

    Many thanks in advance

not a windows issue so moving

if it is a SATA drive you can plug it into any desktop that has a spare sata connector

if IDE you will need a physical adaptor best to to use the cable the CD is on since no messing around with jumpers and stuff them

or you can buy a usb adaptor, but they are slower and offer less prospect of data recovery if the drive is failing

if the other box is a windows machine you will have to take ownership of files before cyou can set the permissions so you can access them

oh yeah it helps to mention the make and model if you are looking for specific help, like where the HDD lives / type it is etc

Thanks for moving to correct forum and for replies

Laptop is a HP Pavillion that I boughgt on Adverts a couple of months ago.
It has a 250Gb IDE drive.
I believe that it has a motherboard failure. I have a small number of files on it that I need to recover.
