Feeling closer to God.

There's been some rough stuff happening in my life that I have no control over, lately, just kind of one thing after another. And yesterday, sometime during the afternoon, I had a feeling of peacefulness that hasn't left me - a realisation that this is all according to the will of the Lord, and is in the hands of God now. That despite all this, I'm watched over.

I had been sitting in the garden and it was a beautiful day (as I'm sure many of you noticed :D). I don't often just sit outside and have no distractions, like music etc. I was just listening to the sounds of birds and the kids in my estate playing, and had that feeling of being a part of something larger and more important than my own life.

Has anyone else experienced this in their lives? When did it happen?

Good for you, long may it last! :D

I remember once when I was 7 years old, I had just learned about 'Heaven' at school in my catechism, and while walking home from school I 'felt' Joyful and Close to God and it was a wonderful feeling. I often think back to that day, it would be lovely to feel like that again - maybe someday in Heaven! :)

Thanks :) And that's a great story - I understand exactly what you mean. It's something that happens to me, not frequently, but regularly? I was in Confession and asked the priest about feeling 'full of light' - and he said I should go to a psychiatrist! He was a mean man. Thankfully he's been moved elsewhere.

I think you may have experienced a moment of peace from the Holy Spirit. The Scriptures describe the Spirit as our comforter and our helper.

I've had many moments like this; ironically often in times of terrible loss and grief.
