if I rang up my insurance company when they open soon could I transfer my insurance to another car just for today or would I have to give them 24 hours notice?
    cheers

It's usually instant, although it may differ between insurance companys.

You also might get the dreaded "We don't insure that car" line.

I was with Hibernian and wanted to view/buy an FTO, rang them the morning of the viewing (had to get a bus to Clonmel) and was told they didn't insure that type of car.
    Granted I was only 20.

Quinn had no trouble insuring me though.

That was a few years ago now so maybe Aviva is different if you're with them.

Can you drive the car third party assuming you have a full license/policy holder?

I was only a named driver so couldn't do it myself but that's usually how it works

Comp doesnt matter when it comes to driving of other cars as you will only be covered on a third party basis anyway.

If you are trying to transfer onto an import/modded car this may be the simplest solution however what I will say is its best to check with them first. No sense buying a car you cant get insurance on.
