where can i get a firewire cable, to connect sony handycam to macbook pro?

    i am trying to source a cable to connect my sony handycam, to my macbook pro..not sure what cable i need.. i have the 4 channel to 4 channel firewire cable, is it possible to get a converter to convert it to the firewire connector on my macbook pro?

    More details on the MacBook Pro would be useful. Early ones had Firewire 400 while newer ones use Firewire 800 ports which are backward compatible.

    I'm assuming the Handycam has the small iLink Firewire port like this.

    For an older Mac with Firewire 400 you will need this cable.

    For the newer Firewire 800 port you need this one.

    A new Firewire (4-pin to 6- or 8-pin) will run you less than a fiver on eBay.

    hi folks well its the intel core i7 macbook pro, bought feb 11.


    so it has the firewire port.


    do any bricks and mortar shops sell these cables , that would be instock?

    The reason I advise against normal shops is that they put HUGE profit margins (500%+) on cables that you can buy yourself off the net.

    Pro-tip: for digital-data cables (e.g. USB, Firewire/iLink, HDMI) the cheapest cable is EXACTLY as good as the most expensive.
