Toilet attendants & racism

I was in the toilets of a bar last night and some little (emphasis on 'little'- he was about 5'6") scumbag had finished washing his hands and said to the attendant, 'here, ni**er, give me some fu**in' paper towel'.

I have to commend the attendant who looked like he was about to level the little twat, but he kept his cool and walked out rather than start a fight.

I wonder if this sort of thing is a common occurrence in the toilets of pubs & clubs around the country?

What did he call you that for?

I've never witnessed it myself, though I imagine it happens every night. More oft than not it's people over compensating by a hundred miles.

"I love Africa me, what part you from?"

    Cheryl Cole anyone?

I really really hate places with toilet attendants. I'm more than capable of drying my hands without assistance.

So Cheryl Cole is being accused of being racist!

Just when you think she can't get any more perfect!

    The blacks in the jacks.

A real phenomenon of the Celtic Tiger years when Ireland had such big boots on that it could afford the luxury of having black people hand out toiletries & soap in the pubs & clubs around the country.

It's almost a form of racism in itself, where the only qualification you seem to need for the job is the appropriate skin colour.

 I think it's more like they're there to charge you a euro for a squirt of deoderant or a square of paper towels to dry your hands. Anywhere I've ever seen the bathroom attendants have had the towel dispensers emptied and the attendant has the tissues so you have to go and ask them for one and are then expected to tip them??? Also, what's the deal with some of them having sweets? Thanks, but I'd rather not eat a fruit polo from a dish in the jacks.

If they need to stop people doing naughty things in the bathrooms they should just stick a bouncer in there.

I really don't like it to be honest, it must be a horribly demeaning job and god knows what they have to put up
with. I've never actually seen anyone acting racist towards them but then again i rarely go to the dodgey clubs.
I also don't like how some of them expect you to give them money
Sure they get paid anyway and it's not like they're actually doing anything for me that's required, i can get my own paper towels!

Pubs, clubs, taxis, takeway restaurants, supermarkets, essentially anywhere that you find 'foreigners'.

Defo,i remember one night sitting in takeaway 3 in the morn with friends who wanted grub, whilst rest of place busy stuffing its face and generally leaving their fast food rubbish all over the place whilst this chinese worker was busy cleaning up the tables.

You'd think they could just have a separate room with cubicles, a bit similar to a bathroom but without the actual toilets maybe with a fella selling johnnies and disinfecting every cubicle after use rather than going out of their way to stop the naughty things?

Why would they go against the flow by trying to stop the naughty things from happening? sure most people are there for the naughty things anyway. They should embrace it and provide this service

Clubs save a lot more mony by simply getting sticking a toliet attendant in there at no cost.

That's horrible. C'mon, name and shame the bar! (as I make sure to avoid any pub who employs toilet attendants.)

a few noteworthy quotes from one:

    No spray....no lay

    No soap.....no hope! :D

I hate having to ask for soap !! It drives me crazy that your expected to 'tip' when all you want to do is wash your hands. I can see why you would be expected to to pay to use deo , perfume, eat the sweets/chewing gum or use any other of the myriad of products provided by these 'attendants' but SOAP and TISSUE (1 piece at that which never quiet cuts it but better than nothing) !! Next thing will be a donation box beside the tap for use of running water....

I worked in a bar where we had toilet attendants way back, well the lad used to come in after mass on a Sunday in a 3 piece suit.He took pride in his job.
Any way 1 day he appeared up to the bar looking for a drink of orange, I filled one up for him and he starts shouting no, no, no ice it's dirty and very unhygienic  My answer was "Man you spend 8 hours a day in a fu***ng Jax"!

Used to work in a late night bar in Dublin. I remember the manager considering getting them in as they didn't have to pay them. What ever cash he gets he keeps that's how he gets paid.

The managers main reason for considering it was so that it would act as a deterrent for drug use in the jacks.

Racism is never acceptable, being from a different country and part of the world is never a reason to hate on someone. However.... its FAIR annoying when you can feel the attendant looking at you washing your hands knowing that she holds in her hands the only method of drying your hands. its weird... i dont wanna dry my hands with something someones been clutching the whole time ive been washing anyway. But truly the nightclubs etc need to sort a system cz its not the employees fault that their job description is so damn irritating but its definitely our fault for allowing racism

Howl on a sec now. What's this got to do with racism? I know the fast-food model supposedly works on customers cleaning up after themselves but really if you've paid for food in a fast-food joint with tables you're under no obligation to clean the table after yourself.

In a sealed tube in the medicine cabinet, not in a filthy public toilet where god knows who has been mauling it.

    Haven't gone away yet.
I was in C5 last night and the toilet attendent informed me that I needed to "wash my toes, to get them hoes".
Now, why he assumed my feet were dirty or that I was interested in a "hoe" is beyond me. It must be a vibe I give off.

I've been to a few places where they had a bowl of mints, you know those little round white ones, I think they're imperial mints or something, but they don't come in a wrapper. Didn't seem to bother a lot of people though :(

Black people working as toilet attendants to serve white people is the height of racism. It's like being back in the 1700s.

Nobody is forcing them to work there. In fact, they're doing it voluntarily: they offer the manager that they attend the bathroom, simply in exchange for the tips. The tips are extremely generous, a friend of mine's brother says he earns €30-€50 an hour on Friday night.
