Just wondering folks which Golf Ball people use. I try us Titleist ProV1. As i do believe the are the best ball and the only one i've used that i can rely on to check up in the short game.. But the problem being they are pretty exspensive,so has anybody else found this and what ball have you changed to that works ??????

Yellow Wilson Ultra everybit as good as Pro V1:p:p:p.

Only jokin, Taylormade Penta and Srixon Z-Star are top quality balls also, great control with them around the greens. Small bit cheaper than the Pro V1, but still alot of money for dozen balls.

Have changed from Pro V1 to Penta. Love them. Defo get more distance from Penta and personally feel they are softer

All the better balls are expensive their are no ways around it. Only thing I can say is maybe give the TM Penta's a look as they do not tend to shred or tear up as much so you get a little more play out of them. But if they are in the ditch or OB it's all the same. That said the V1 is the slightest bit softer so dose check a small bit more.

Best balls IMO with Price per dozen

    1 Penta 39.95
    2 V1 46.95
3 Z Star Were going for as little as 25.00 but originally 39.95
    4 NXT tour 29.95
    5 AD333 19.95

Probably best not to buy new balls if you can avoid it. Their are plenty of people picking them up and selling them at decent prices at this time of year. Adverts always worth a look.

Starting out i bought about 60 of a mix, like top flight, pinnacle etc, ive used a couple of found pro v1's and i have to say i do notice the difference, ive recently only started to lose maybe one or 2 balls tops during a round so soon i think il pick one ball and stick to it, dont think i can fork out €40 for 12 pro v1s just yet though :)
Ive used to nike ndx (€12) from heatons and they seem to go pretty well. Bought some TM Burner TP balls yesterday for €17 new so wil report back, ive actually noticed on the green there is a difference so will deffo be sticking to the one ball soon

I use the the Bridgestone e6 and I have no complaints with them. I have bought a few pro v's before and I never warmed to them enough to buy a dozen for 40/45euro, although I have no doubt with continued use they would probably make a difference to my game.
Going to try the TM Penta in the coming weeks but cant see myself changing from the e6 as I am happy with it.

E6 is a decent ball. Only ever played them when I found them but they definitely performed pretty good.

Yeah to be honest i think its the best on the market when you factor in its price which is very decent. Its worth giving it a try OP if you have never used it and give it 2/3 rounds and I am sure you would be happy enough with it.

The Penta balls have surpassed the Pro V1s as the best balls in golf. Cheaper too.

Seems like a lot good talk about the Penta ball, i think i might give them a try, have tried the titleist nxt tour ball and wasnt happy with them at all, actually taught the TM burner ball was a better ball but i just couldnt trust them enough around the green either, so have been sticking with the Pro V1 but will certainly try the TM penta next time i buy balls. Just a pity Pro shops dont sell them second hand like most do the Pro V1Will have a look for the bridgestone e6 too they dont seem to be as available as the others or maybe i just havent noticed.

For the money the e6 is a great ball - better than the NXT imo. I have not tried the NXT tour so can not really comment on them. The only problem with the e6 would be control around the green - they will stop and are fine for receptive greens but they are a low spin ball.

I was using the e6 until recently and have started to use the Bridgestone B330-RX. Much better control on the greens. Just going through a phase were I am losing too many balls again so will try out the Penta's when that settles down.

Why not just use practise pro v 1's same as regular pro v's just cheaper and legal for tournament play.

Thats pretty cheap. I just posted the Mcguirks prices to show the correlation between the cost and my favored golf balls is all. I think I got them for 35e in the Pro shop in Thurles one day also, I think that pretty much the same price when currency changed. :)

If I'm just out for a few holes in the evening I play whatever comes to hand until I'm up around the green and then I switch over to a V1 or whatever. That way I'm not loosing 15 expensive golf balls a week and still get a bit of practice with the softer ones. Might be the way to go...

The R&A have equipment rules in regard to the balls that Initial velocity and a thing called the Overall Distance Standard. I'm not 100% on this but I think what the rule effectively means is a ball can not go further than 320yards with a 120 mph swing speed.

So that pretty much means all modern Multi-layer Balls are up their. Maybe some of the harder 2 piece balls might go a yard further e.g Nxt's . but their is effectively very little distance between any of the modern golf balls. :)

I play Callaway black, no complaints but in winter I have no hesitation in teeing up a top flight :p

Im not saying your wrong regarding the ball going 320y @120mph but dont some tour players smash the ball over 320 and some even can carry that like D Johnston or A Queiros on a good day. Maybe in manufacturing its a regulation for it not to go over 320y @120.

totally agree with you do on the balls not been that much longer than each other.

Indeed KPH you are dead right, went on to Randa.org and had a look not that i was trying to prove you wrong or anything but boredom was the spark...

7.2.4 If the overall distance determined in 7.2.1 is greater than 320.0 yards the ball does not conform to the Rules of Golf.

    And that was at 120mph @ 10degrees.

    Good Knowledge there mate !!icon7.gif

Buy used / lake balls, pro v a waste of money unless you are sub 5 hcap imo. I try to play any make, not long or xtra distance , on softer side.

@0161allin Cool! Came across that somewhere earlier in the year when me and one of the lads were trying to figure our swing speeds by back calculating from out drive distances. That was a little bit silly but gave us a ballpark figure anyway.
