I have the D-4D engine in my lwb cruiser, 03 (old model) same engine. I get a pretty consistent 28 -30 mpg doing big enough miles too. Would imagine swb would be a tiny bit better being lighter, and if its 6 speed slightly better for motorway. In my experience they have some of the better mpg figures for a full size 4x4

My 00 Landcrusier used to get about 32mpg-34 i did high mileage on it too

My 06 swb 6 speed is easily doing around 30mpg if not more on long journeys. On short stop start journeys I think it does around the 25 mpg or thereabouts. Don't find it too bad on diesel at all compared to some.

    Tanx for replies..............cc30
p.s any mechanical issues or skeletons ready to fall out of the closet like other well known 4x4s

I have got +/- 30mpg on average on a good few of these.
Watch for injection problems, wonky clutches, gearbox hopping out of gear and general signs of abuse.

    +1

I'd go along with Colm, 4th gear would be one to watch where a lot of trailer work has been done. Also I've heard of a seal going on the transfer box to the rear shaft, if run dry it doesn't do any good. Clutch would be the weak link on an otherwise really good 4x4.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

They reduced the clutch diameter from the older 90 series, the 90 series are 260mm dia clutch the 120's are 240mm IIRC.
Thats probably why they don't last as long.
