Probably doesn't deserve it's own thread so mod's feel free to move, but TVs3's GAA competition has to be the cheapest ever.
Win two tickets to an All-Ireland Quarter Final, so a prize worth at the most €80. Cost €1 per text (x2) and even better it is sponsored by Ulster Bank! They are as cheap as there coverage.
I will sponsor the next one if they give me half the phone fees.
I mean not even overnight accomodation, or rail train tickets just mean.
    End of rant.

Just one thing, €80 is the cost of 1 ticket this year... But I do agree with ya.. Sure RTÉ had the "fly your mate home from Australia for the Munster Hurling Final" competition earlier in the year..

Any compeition for giving away final tickets is a good one as they're so hard to get.

But giving away quarter final tickets is laughable. Would they be as much as 80 euro? They're only 60 for two at the highest cost for todays hurling quarter finals in Thurles

    +1

Its always full of ads - never give the panel enough time to discuss the featured match. Bad and all as RTE are, at least they discuss the game in depth.

The reason TV3's coverage is full of ads is probably because they have to survive on their own business acumen and those same ad revenues.

Unlike RTE, which has the nice little cushion of our tv license fee (160 bucks per household), along with its own ad revenues. And yet still manages to run up a loss each and every year! You're paying a princely sum for uninterrupted Brolly/Spillane/McStay debates. Those that have zero interest in sport pay for them too.

Watch some American tv (where there are no state sponsored tv channels) and see a real ad-break onslaught. They happen every couple of minutes.

Sure, TV3's coverage is shaky but they're making an effort to compete and survive in the 'real' world. They will improve. RTE has a huge advantage on that score.
