Very promising results this season from our 400 and 400m Hurdlers, with lots of depth coming through in ther younger ages

I think alot of credit for the hurdlers coming through has to go to Jeremy Lyons he started the Irish hurdlers series last year and it seems to really have spurred everyone on.

It often only takes one good motivational coach who's been there and done it to get a ball rolling. Too many former athletes give nothing back to the sport.

excellent running. 50.74 from Barr is quite simply exceptional.

Would love to see a relay team made up entirely of 400mh men, Barr, Byrne, Crowe, Fagan, & Maher (when he gets back fit). I presume they occasionally do they technical hurdle workshops together, so why not get the baton in their hands too? To be honest, baton changing is not something some Irish teams seem to get 100% right. A tenth or a thousandth of a second usually decides sprints.

There has been significant breakthrough performances this year in the long hurdles by a number of athletes. Usually when there are a number of quality performers in an event they bring each other on. Thomas and Jessie Barr have been great on the European stage. Timmy Crowe has been consistantly at a new level this year. Ben Kiely has moved to a new level and Megan Kiely has knocked a chunk off her pb. Ciara Giles Doran's amazing 300m hurdles time (fastest youth in the world this year) is pretty encouraging also. Kalyn Sheehan also qualified for Euro u 23. With a number of older athletes performing well emma peters etc 400m hurdles is definately going to be a leading event for Ireland in the next few years and beyond.

Joanne Cuddihy ran a SB 52.34secs in Pergine Valsugana, Italy on Saturday night. That's just 0.04secs off a B-standard for Daegu.

I think it should be said that the Barrs and Crowe all train together in Limerick. Thomas has knocked nearly 6 seconds off his PB since joining that squad a year ago!! Hats off to their coaches Drew and Hayley Harrison

Serious? Didn't know that. Shows the value of working together. The Harrisons have had a lot of success with Irish athletes and should be commended. Although I'm sure Thomas Barr got a good education on hurdling at Ferrybank as well.

Ferrybank came up trumps again today. Twins Ben and Megan Kiely won Gold and Bronze medals respectively at the European Youth Olympıcs today. Ben knocked almost a second off the Youth record he set in April. Megan only missed out on silver on the line by 2 hundredths of a second. 400m hurdles has to have been our most successful event this summer at European level. Anyone any stats? Why aren't we making more of an effort to develop 400m H??

Phenomenal performances in Trabzon today. The amazing thing this year in 400m hurdling has been getting the big performance on the big day. It has happened at all the major competitions - Jessie for Ferrybank in European clubs, Jessie and Timmy in European Cup, Jessie in European u 23, Thomas in European Junior and now today again Ben and Megan in the Youth Olympics. It is simply amazing and should be recognised by AI and targeted with resources as an event which is moving to new levels fast! Also Jessie and Justine will be in World Student Games in August so more to come maybe?:):):):)

Just another reason to send these athletes to the Olympics if the get a B standard. Jessie Barr is only one tenth of a second off the B standard and i'm sure if she was sent she would improve again, There will never be a better opportunity to give these athletes a chance. Its only next door too. I'm sure any athlete would pay their own way if they had to i know i would.
