Hi Guys. Spotted a pair of butterflies last week that I cant id for certain. They were circling the headrace of a millpond around 1pm on a dullish afternoon.
What was odd was that after crashing around in the undergrowth they would dip down and skim the water as if they were drinking. It was quite conspicuous and both of them were at it.
They were like a Meadow Brown but stockier and faster flying. My best guess would be a fritillary but could possibly be a moth either.
    Any thoughts?

Skimming the water is not behavior I have heard of and I've no idea what species you saw.

Yeah thought it was a bit odd. Only plant in water was water celery but they were not close to it. Guess i'll have to go back and see. Thanks anyway.
