Insurance Co. paying for depreciation ?

A friend of mine was in an RTA a month ago - he was rear-ended and the other guys insurance agreed to cough up for the repairs in full , repairs have now been done and all looks well.
My friend was told ( dunno who but suspect a barrack-room lawyer ) he should claim a depreciation charge on his vehicle - the rationale being that regardless of the car being repaired it has now been in an RTA and as such it's value has declined by at least 10%.

Is this possible ? Might an insurer having forked out to repair a vehicle then pay , say , 10% of the vehicles value to compensate for accelerated depreciation ? I must say I've never heard of it and am a tad skeptical.
