Paypal question

    i signed up to paypal recently, linked a 3v voucher, and got charged $1 to it. this wasn't the verification charge as there was no 4 number code in the 3v statement online, that came later (€1.50 charged and refunded to my account went okay)...this $1 charge comes up on 3v.ie but not on paypal, despite it being from paypal, so what is it?

    It cannot appear on Paypal . - It can only appear on your credit card statement or 3V statement online.

    The $1 was never in Paypal , so why should it appear in Paypal.

    The reason for the €1.50 charge is to verify your Paypal account . - A credit card transaction is used to verify your Paypal account .

    it was charged by paypal as that's what appears on the 3v statement online. i'm wondering what that charge was. it only occurred when i linked my voucher to paypal

    the €1.50 charge is something different. i only stated that that charge went okay and got refunded in case people thought the $1 charge was that.

    Sent an email to Paypal asking about this charge...it's part of the card authorisation process, and will be charged even if the card isn't approved. should be refunded back within 30 days

    I have reviewed your account and can see that this transaction is a
    temporary authorisation charge. An authorisation is a common method
    banks use when validating that credit cards are active and available for
    online payments. Whenever you add or edit a card on your PayPal account,
    our credit card processor will temporarily place a $1.00 USD charge on
    your account as part of this authorisation process.

    Please note:

    * The authorisation will remain on your card for a short time and
    will show a "hold" or "pending" status.
    * It may take a few minutes or up to 30 days, depending on your
    bank, for the transaction to be removed from your account and the $1.00
    USD to be released to your card balance.
    * You may see an authorisation even if the card was not approved.

    If your still around I like to ask you have you had any further problems with the linked card?


    I''ve been with paypal for 7years without a problem now when I try to top up my paypal account the're asking me to link my personal bank account. I see no reason why I should but if I don't they say i can no longer deposit to my paypal account. This leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. It seems to me that once 'linked' they can for whatever reason lay some sort of charge on my personal bank account at any time without my authorisation.
    Would be pleased for any comments.......

    This cannot happen unless you set up a direct debit. Paypal doesn't operate direct debits though, and cannot source funds from Irish bank accounts. Linking an account is for withdrawing money.
