im seriously thinking about a B16B conversion into my 1.3 civic eg. I had thought about the B18c but id prob be changing the logbook to the higher cc and 1.6 bit better than 1.8 and afaik there is only about 10bhp in the difference...

anyone done this to an eg? would you recommend it?

    Thanks :)

    Pro:
A better engine a little more power,
    fairly easy
More mid and high end torque
Better gearing if you get the right box
An LSD if you get the right box

    Con:
insurance is classed as modified car,
    engineers report required
    much much higher insurance
    less choice in insurance companies
Brakes need to be done if you want to live
It will take time to work the bugs out
Cheaper to buy a standard ek9 over a number of years, Ek9 oem handles good enough for track use while standard (on cheap ish insurance)
You will always wish you spent extra on the b18b or h22a if you go to the trouble

id certainly go for a b18c over a b16b any day. the b16b has no torque, the b18c does. you would get about the same fuel economy from them both. as stated already you would have to tell your insurance that you changed your engine unless you wont be covered if anything ever happened.

too much of the 1.3 has to be uprated really for it to be viable. better to try get your hands on an eg6 or a 1.5vtec. as stated above saving for an ek9 is your best bet, plus you will get more ncb in the time being.

Or another alternative is just to buy en eg already converted.. and leave book at 1.6 (if car was an sir) alot cheaper id say

My policy renewal came in for mine a few weeks ago and it's dropped by almost 800 euros. Last year it was 1450, this year 666. So no, insurance hasn't gone up on them. And it'd be easier to insure a straight Type R than a B18 EG

I drove a teg r once.. done nothing for me.. but then again at the time i owned an e39 M5 so alot of quick cars would seem slow..

Insurance cost isnt an issue as the m5 was 800 a year for me at 28 years of age 3 years ago... My insurance told me around 1300 for b18c eg.

In my opinion, it will be more trouble than it's worth in terms of money and finding an insurance company compared to just buying an ek9.
Very little companies will insure a car which has had an engine transplant.

If it's for track use then I would completely agree with doing it but for road use not so much.

Maybe they thought you were superstitious and wanted to stop you taking out the policy? :D
